HOW TO DETERMINE THE DIVISION OF THE STATE RANKINGS A SCHOOL HAS BEEN PLACED IN:

1. If school is in the CIF San Diego, North Coast or Central Coast sections, we are slotting those into the matching enrollment-based divisions as closely as possible. In these sections, where enrollments are used to determine playoff divisions, it is possible to have schools from the same league ranked in the state in different divisions.

2. If school is in the CIF Southern Section, all those in Div. I, Div. II, Div. III and Div. V are considered Div. I for our state rankings. CIFSS schools from Div. IV, Div. VI and Div. VII are considered Div. II for our state rankings. CIFSS schools from Div. VIII, Div. IX and Div. X are considered Div. III for our state rankings. CIFSS schools from Div. XI and Div. XII are considered Div. IV for our state rankings. Finally, CIFSS schools from Div. XIII are considered Div. V for our state rankings.

3. If school is in CIF L.A. City Section, all are considered Div. I for our state rankings.

4. If school is in CIF San Francisco or Oakland section, all are considered Div. II for our state rankings.

5. If school is in CIF Central, Sac-Joaquin or Northern sections, we are continuing to use a league strength formula in which each school from a particular league is grouped together. All Div. I leagues in the Sac-Joaquin, for example, are considered Div. I for the state rankings. Some of the Div. II leagues in the Sac-Joaquin, however, are considered Div. III for the state rankings. The Northern Section will have no leagues considered Div. I or Div. II for the state rankings, although a handful of schools do have enrollments above 1,700 students.

6. If you have a specific question about why your school appears in the division indicated, e-mail us at:
