Bosco DB Set to Decide

Bellflower (Calif.) St. John Bosco defensive back Traveon Beck has gone back and forth in trying to decide if he wanted to make an early decision. He's now all in and will commit at his H.S Wednesday with two of his teammates.

Traveon Beck has seen his stock sky rocket in recent months. He didn't have a single scholarship offer at the time of the Opening Regional Camp in L.A back in April and is now closing in on double digits.

As recently as last week, Beck was set to announce this coming Wednesday but an offer from California over the weekend made him have to stop and think about things for a minute.

"I'm ready to go," Beck said. "I'm going to commit this week and I'm very excited about it. My final five are Arizona State, Cal, San Jose State, Washington State and Wisconsin. My plan all along was to commit in the spring or summer so I can focus on my senior season. I was saying that before I had offers so I'm happy with the schools I get to choose from and just grateful to be in this situation."

We had Beck pegged for ASU ever since he landed the offer from the Sun Devils. He took an unofficial visit in mid-March and loved it there and they appeared to be in the drivers seat. Things changed in a big way over the weekend when Beck landed the offer from Cal.

"Growing up, Cal and UCLA were my dream schools," Beck said. "I've been up to Cal a ton of times and when I got the offer, I couldn't believe it. I had a great talk with Coach Burns and I have a lot of respect for him as a coach and a person. That was a huge offer and it definitely gives me a lot to think about."

A dark horse here is San Jose State. Beck has a great relationship with Spartan DB coach Donte Williams and has talked up the opportunity for early playing time at SJSU. No matter who he picks, Beck said he still plans to take his official visits in the fall.

He has never been to Wisconsin or Washington State so it's tough to imagine him committing to a school sight unseen on Wednesday. He will likely visit both in the fall however so Beck's recruitment may not totally be over until closer to Signing Day.
