State Football Top 20

A pair of Orange County schools roar into the top 10 after impressive opening victories, while two other top 10 teams fall sharply after lackluster performances. No change at the top where DLS and Poly are still No. 1 and 2.

Notes & Highlights

Biggest games this week are No. 4 Mater Dei vs. No. 8 Mission Viejo and No. 5 Hart vs. No. 18 St. Bonaventure, if they will be played....Hart blanked defending L.A. City champ Banning of Wilmington last week, 34-0, in a game that was marred by unsportsmanlike conduct penalties against Banning that resulted in three ejections. The Indians were outgained 294-224, but also capitalized on six Banning turnovers. RB Tim Gregory, who tore an ACL in the second game last year, made a successful return with 60 yards on 16 carries and three touchdowns for Hart......St. Bonaventure will take a 30-game winning streak into its game against the Indians. That is the second-longest in the state behind the national record 114-game streak currently being compiled by De La Salle......The Mater Dei Monarchs rallied from a 17-0 halftime deficit to defeat Fallbrook 26-17. All three Fallbrook scores were set up by Monarch turnovers inside Fallbrook's 20 yard line. In the second half, Fallbrook turned the ball over four times and Loyola transfer Rafael Rice scored four touchdowns for the comeback win......Mission Viejo rolled over Temescal Canyon 35-20, led by running back Robbie Dubois' standout performance. Dubois rushed for 247 yards and three touchdowns including an 80-yard scamper on the game's opening play. Linebacker Ryan Powdrell led the defense, which held the Titans to 17 yards in the first half........
