HAYWARD, Calif. --Walnut Creek (Calif.) Berean Christian wide receiver Isaiah Hodgins may sneakily be one of the better pass catchers in the state of California, and he showed why on Sunday at the Passing Down 7on7 NorCal Regional, where his TMP Elite team made the finals, and punched their ticket to the Best of the West tournament later this month.
"Right now, I'm sitting at 12 offers -- five Pac-12s, and the rest Mountain West, and the Big 10, from Purdue," Hodgins said. "I just got offered by Utah and Purdue, so those are my two most recent ones."
Hodgins also recently got back from a three-school trip, when he visited Washington State, Boise State and Oregon. He'll soon visit Colorado and Oregon State, and wore a Beavers visor after TMP finished their day at Chabot College.
"I definitely loved it," Hodgins said of his trips to Pullman, Boise and Eugene. "They were great visits, they showed me around and made me feel at home. It was a good time."
What stuck out?
"How I fit into their offense, how they run their program, the practices, the facilities, just different things like that," Hodgins said.
Both the offers from the Boilermakers and the Utes were surprises, Hodgins said.
"They were actually both surprises, because I hadn't talked to anybody before, and then I got the two offers," he said. "I grew up an 'SC fan, since Reggie Bush was there, but I'm trying to find the best fit for me. I'm not trying to find anything specific."
While he's not looking for anything specific, he does have at least some semblance of a checklist.
"A school that's going to feed me the rock and throw me the ball a lot, but also a school that has good facilities, great coaches, that want to work with me and make me better, and make me compete, a program that's headed in the right direction, and is a stable, good program," he said.
As for his latest offers?
Utah: "That was my most recent offer, so I haven't explored much about them, but they seem like a good school, and I'll definitely look at them."
Purdue: "I know it's Big 10 football, and that's big time football, so I'll take a look over there."
