PRESEASON ALL-SECTION TEAMS (Part 6)

This sixth installment in a series of profiles and preseason honors teams is for the CIF L.A. City Section. We'll continue this series into next week, leading up to all of our preseason rankings of the top football teams in the state. Note: We are entering our 25th year of covering high school sports in California.

L.A. City Section

Preseason Honors Squad

Offense

WR -- Ryan Graves (Venice) 6-1, 170, Sr.

Transfer from Pasadena Muir led the state last year with 106 catches for 1,499 yards and 16 TDs. Already committed to UCLA.

WR -- James Lewis (Venice) 6-1, 195, Sr.

Impressed at both Nike camps and ranked high on numerous national recruitling lists.

OL -- Matt Streid (Granada Hills) 6-2, 280, Sr.

A lot of the top linemen in the section can go either on offense or defense and Streid is one of them.

OL -- Norris Malele (Carson) 6-3, 280, Sr.

Some think Norris is a better college prospect than brother Matt, who was a second team all-state pick last year.

OL -- Erick Lobos (Venice) 6-3, 275, Sr.

Named as a second-teamer last season on All-L.A. City honors squad.

OL -- C.J. Torres (San Pedro) 6-3, 285, Sr.

Should be one of the top players in the South Bay region (which includes CIFSS schools).

OL -- Alexi Lanis (Crenshaw, Los Angeles) 6-6, 290, Jr.

College coaches are drooling over this Russian bear. Yes, he's a white player for the Cougars and stood out on last year's team as a sophomore.

QB -- Beau Davis (Venice) 6-2, 190, Sr.

Transfer from Carson should put up huge numbers with wideouts he has plus head coach Angelo Gasca's connection to the Steve Clarkson pass offense.

RB -- Patrick Perry (Banning, Wilmington) 5-9, 195, Sr.

He's the No. 1 back in the city, from a college-recruitment standpoint, and was one of the best even as a sophomore two years ago.

RB -- Ryan Carew (Sylmar) 5-11, 180, Sr.

Ran for more than 2,000 yards and scored 21 TDs last year and ranked among top prospects in the West.

RB -- Anthony Dickson (Grant, Van Nuys) 5-11, 190, Sr.

Despite missing two games, Anthony rambled for 1,500 yards and had 23 TDs as a junior.

K -- Dylan Cohnen (Palisades, Pacific Palisades) Jr.

Fridays won't be freaky for the Dolphins if they have to depend on Cohnen to kick a key PAT or FG. Note: The current hit movie was filmed at Dylan's school.

Defense

DL -- Alan King (Monroe, Sepulveda) 6-4, 245, Sr.

Ranked among the top 20 defensive line prospect in the West by college scouts.

DL -- Jasper Henry (Dorsey, Los Angeles) 6-2, 260, Sr.

He's a rapidly rising prospect due to projected pass rushing ability.

DL -- Thomas Herring (Fremont, Los Angeles) 6-6, 290, Sr.

He's the No. 1 player in the section and one of the best in the West.

LB -- Wallace Bates (Taft, Woodland Hills) 6-0, 200, Sr.

New coach Kevin Pearson of the Toreadors willl be counting on Wallace to lead the defense.

LB -- Luke Laolagi (Birmingham, Van Nuys) 6-2, 205, Jr.

One of the top juniors in the state, Laolagi is the top returnee off last year's section championship team.

LB -- Anthony Huntley (Crenshaw, Los Angeles) 6-1, 215, Sr.

Cougars always have a competitive squad and Huntley will help make that so once again.

DB -- Jerome Boyd (Dorsey, Los Angeles) 6-2, 195, Sr.

How many times have the Dons had the top DB in the city? Add this year (with Boyd) to that total.

DB -- Chet Sanders (Carson) 6-1, 190, Sr.

Second team all-state underclass pick from last year can play both corner and safety.

DB -- Jeffrey Brown (Narbonne, Harbor City) 6-2, 185, Sr.

Gauchos have been a college recruiting magnet of late and Brown looks like another excellent catch.

DB -- Kellen Yancy (Fairfax, Los Angeles) 6-2, 200, Sr.

If he keeps growing and stays fast, a switch to linebacker could be in the works.

DB -- Tim Farley (Belmont, Los Angeles) 5-11, 175, Sr.

Returning second-team All-L.A. City pick also is a very good running back.

P -- Giovanni Rodriguez (Verdugo Hills) Sr.

Another second-team All-L.A. City selection from a year ago.

Multi-Purpose

RB/DB -- Keenan Jones (Narbonne, Harbor City) 5-11, 185, Sr.

He's pretty close to being as highly-regarded a running back as the three shown above.

RB/ATH -- Byron Ellis (Venice) 6-1, 195, Sr.

Impressed at both Nike camps and yet another promising prospect from a team that certainly should be the section's most intriguing, if not one of the best.

WR/TE -- Austin Usher (Jefferson, Los Angeles) 6-3, 190, Jr.

Should be one of the top juniors this season in Southern California.

DB/ATH -- Jeremiah Johnson (Dorsey, Los Angeles) 5-10, 195, Jr.

It'll be interesting to see how the talents of this strong and fast junior are utilized.

LB/DB -- Elijah Mueller (Carson) 6-1, 195, Sr.

Should team with Chet Sanders to give the Colts a great pair of attacking defenders.

QB/RB -- Deshawn Smith (Grant, Van Nuys) 5-10, 190, Sr.

He threw for more than 1,700 yards as a junior and showed he could take off and run for a few yards, too.
