State Athletes of the Week

This weeks State Athletes of the Week are Dos Palos running back Kenny James and San Dieguito Academy cross country runner Jenna Timinsky.

Boys: Kenny James

(Dos Palos)

This 200-pound power-packed running back was one of the top scorers in the nation last season with 54 TDs and, despite a sore ankle that cut down practice time in August, he's on track for another banner campaign. Last week in Dos Palos' 39-13 victory over Los Banos, James scored on runs of 24, 15, 39, 58 and 29 yds and finished with 28 carries for 305 yds. The big night also pushed James past the 4,000-yard mark for his career.

Girls: Jenna Timinsky

(San Dieguito Academy, Encinitas)

Timinsky had the second-fastest time in the 21 years of the Mt. Carmel/Movin Shoes Invitational last week. She clocked a time of 14 minutes, 58.2 seconds over the 2.7 mile Morley Field course. Timinsky just missed the course record of 14:55 set by Kim Mortensen of Thousand Oaks in 1995 and told the San Diego Union-Tribune:  "I put in my hardest summer ever. Last year I'd take a vacation from training, but this summer I pushed myself hard."  Timinsky is one of the best runners in California this season and has attracted the attention of big name schools such as UCLA and Stanford. She's yet to win a CIF state title, but that could change in November.
