This ninth installment in a series of profiles and preseason honors teams is for the Inland Empire area of the CIF Southern Section. This series will end with the overall CIFSS team tomorrow, leading up to all of our preseason rankings of the top football teams in the state. Note: We are entering our 25th year of covering high school sports in California.

Southern Section (Inland Empire)

Preseason Honors Squad

Note: We didn't go as far south as Palm Springs or La Quinta for this list, but did include portions of eastern L.A. County.

WR -- Damon Morton (J.W. North, Riverside) 6-1, 175, Sr.

Named state sophomore player of the year for 2001 season.

TE -- Dale Thompson (Santiago, Corona) 6-4, 240, Sr.

There's a strong consensus that Dale is the state's top TE prospect for the next level.

OL -- Brian Abraham (Rancho Cucamonga) 6-6, 260, Sr.

Already committed to UCLA and a likely Hot 100 recruiting pick for the state.

OL -- Clarence Tuioti-Mariner (Corona) 6-1, 285, Sr.

A two-year all-leaguer and a returning All-State Underclass second team selection.

OL -- Josh Harwell (Redlands) 6-4, 310, Sr.

Only returning starter on offense for the Terriers and plays center.

OL -- Adam McDowell (Norco) 6-4, 250, Sr.

Teammate Josh Smith (6-5, 310) is another top-notch player, but we went with McDowell here since he was the one named second team All-County last season.

OL -- O'Neill Roussell (Chino) 6-3, 265, Sr.

Three-year starter is another gem for longtime coach John Monger.

QB -- Brian Hildebrand (Corona) 6-1, 190, Sr.

Top thrower at USC and Stanford Nike Camps and one of just two from the state who were invited to the prestigious EA Sports Elite 11 Quarterback Camp.

RB -- Terrell Jackson (Centennial, Corona) 5-9, 185, Sr.

Fifty touchdowns and 300 plus points are magical numbers that 99 percent of prep runningbacks in the nation can only dream of.

RB -- Josh Barnett (J.W. North, Riverside) 5-10, 170, Sr.

Scored 25 TDs and rushed for 1,620 yards last season and a major college prospect.

RB -- Jamal Floyd (Claremont) 5-11, 185, Sr.

Rushed for 1,400 yards last year and already offered by UCLA, Colorado and others.

DL -- Bernard Afutiti (Kaiser, Fontana) 6-1, 225, Jr.

All-State Underclass pick had 13 sacks and 15 other tackles for loss last year.

DL -- Duke DeLao (J.W. North, Riverside) 6-3, 280, Sr.

Huskies have more coming back than just quick, skill players.

DL -- Andrew Raimer (Chaparral, Temecula) 6-4, 265, Sr.

Also is an outstanding wrestler and has run a 5.2 in the 40.

DL -- Rodney Picou (Canyon Springs, Moreno Valley) 6-3, 300, Jr.

Big-time college prospect for next year gets it done on both sides of the ball.

LB -- Ryan Phipps (Centennial, Corona) 6-0, 210, Sr.

Standout at USC Nike camp and one of the top five LBs in the West.

LB -- Eugene Germany (Pomona) 6-3, 230, Sr.

We admit we goofed in not choosing Eugene to last year's All-State Underclass squad.

LB -- Prince Hall (Moreno Valley) 6-0, 240, Jr.

Could be one of the top junior LBs in the nation. He had 139 tackles as a soph.

LB -- Art Drumwright (Rancho Cucamonga) 6-2, 225, Sr.

Seems to be just a little more highly-regarded than teammates Averel Spicer (DL) and Patrick Chung (DB), who also are getting serious looks from colleges.

DB -- Dion Toliver (Poly, Riverside) 5-11, 160, Sr.

All-County pick by Press-Enterprise had five interceptions and two forced fumbles.

DB -- Durrell Peters (Temecula Valley) 5-11, 190, Sr.

Ranked as one of the state's top 25 DBs for next level, according to Student Sports/TheSporting News High School Football annual.

DB -- Keston Cheatem (Pomona) 6-3, 200, Sr.

Already committed to Michigan and a threat as a wideout as well.

RB/KR -- Robbie Allen (Arroyo Valley, San Bernardino) 6-1, 200, Sr.

Had a 100-yard kickoff return and averaged nearly 11 yards per carry as a junior.

QB/RB -- Kyle Jacobo (A.B. Miller, Fontana) 6-3, 185, Sr.

Rushed for 1,247 yards and scored 15 TDs as option QB. Also had 59 tackles on defense.

QB/RB -- Nate Johns (Redlands East Valley) 6-1, 175, Sr.

Piled up more than 1,300 yards passing and 1,000 yards rushing in breakout season for Wildcats.

QB/RB -- Dion Morton (J.W. North, Riverside) 6-1, 175, Sr.

Three-year starter will be at the controls of one of the most exciting offenses anywhere.

RB/ATH -- Ian Johnson (Damien, La Verne) 6-0, 200, Sr.

Another highly-productive rusher from last year who is getting Div. I college looks.

QB/RB/DB -- Tim Parks (Moreno Valley) 5-11, 185, Sr.

Had one of the best shuttles two years ago at USC Nike Camp.
