Southern Section (Ventura-Santa Barbara-SLO)

Preseason Honors Squad

WR -- Alex Morfin (Hueneme, Oxnard) 6-1, 180, Sr.

Caught eight TD passes as a junior and among state's top WR recruits.

WR -- Bryce Winter (Newbury Park) 6-0, 190, Sr.

Made the state record book with 18 catches in one game.

OL -- Alex Mack (San Marcos, Santa Barbara) 6-3, 255, Sr.

Returning All-Channel League pick also boasts 4.17 GPA.

OL -- Justice Clegg (Lompoc) 6-5, 250, Sr.

Named All-State Underclass last season.

OL -- Ryan Sorensen (Westlake, Westlake Village) 6-4, 290, Sr.

Also transferred from Newbury Park with QB Rudy Carpenter.

OL -- Chris Joseph (Santa Ynez) 6-4, 250, Sr.

Could be solid mid-major college prospect.

OL -- Mark Lewis (Arroyo Grande) 6-5, 270, Sr.

Another line stud from coach Jon Huss' program, Mark has already committed to Oregon.

QB -- Rudy Carpenter (Westlake, Westlake Village) 6-2, 190, Sr.

Had two 500-yard games last season for Newbury Park, but he'll be on a more balanced team this year and probably will have to come out of some lopsided games so similar totals aren't likely.

RB -- Ryan Mole (Righetti, Santa Maria) 5-10, 185, Sr.

He's a legit big-time prospect with 4.47 speed in the 40. Rushed for 1,497 yards and caught 33 passes as a junior.

RB -- Aaron Ware (Oaks Christian, Westlake Village) 5-10, 175, Jr.

He's got great speed to the corner, but needs to run between the tackles better if he's to be among nation's ultra-elite next season.

RB -- Joe Garcia (Morro Bay) 5-11, 185, Sr.

Racked up 1,767 yards as a junior.

PK -- Victor Velasco (Santa Maria) 5-10, 160, Sr.

Named first team All-CIFSS for Division X schools.

DL -- Jimmy Miller (Westlake, Westlake Village) 6-5, 240, Sr.

Committed to USC, where he'll probably be used mostly as a TE. He was All-State Underclass as DE due to getting 16 1/2 sacks.

DL -- Josh Engle (Dos Pueblos, Goleta) 6-2, 285, Sr.

He has a 4.0 GPA and he's run a 5.4 in the 40.

DL -- David Dixon (Atascadero) 6-0, 261, Sr.

Looked good at Stanford Nike Camp and was among best in bench press reps.

DL -- Michael Stuart (Westlake, Westlake Village) 6-4, 215, Sr.

Great player on the edge who had 14 1/2 sacks and a returning All-State Underclassman.

LB -- Allen Brunner (St. Bonaventure, Ventura) 6-0, 220, Sr.

Super-strong hitter is among top 20 LBs in the state, based on list in StudentSports/TheSportingNews prep football annual.

LB -- Greg Newman (Westlake, Westlake Village) 6-4, 235, Sr.

Second team All-County pick by the Ventura County Star.

LB -- Mark Cordell (Oaks Christian, Westlake Village) 6-0, 225, Sr.

Earned All-CIFSS honors for his division and had three picks in a single game.

DB -- Terrail Lambert (St. Bonaventure, Ventura) 5-10, 175, Sr.

The Terrail Express won't be derailed with his combination of agility, speed and strength. He's known throughout the nation.

DB -- Charles Dillon (Hueneme, Oxnard) 6-1, 170, Sr.

Another second team all-county pick and might have recruitment that approaches Lambert in intensity.

DB -- Josh Pinkard (Hueneme, Oxnard) 6-0, 180, Sr.

Also will star for the Vikings as the QB on offense.

DB -- Chris Palmer (Santa Barbara) 5-10, 175, Sr.

A bright light in the bleakness of last year's 0-10 showing for the Dons was the emergence of Palmer as a speedy cover corner and all-around breakaway threat.

LB/RB/DB -- Joel Carty (Carpinteria) 6-0, 180, Sr.

He's the major returnee from the Warriors' 14-0 team that was No. 1 in the Div. IV state rankings.

RB/K -- Vinnie Freitas (Paso Robles) 6-2, 195, Sr.

Hard-charging player runs with a punishing style that seems to perfectly describe the Pac 5 League.

WR/DB/P -- Braden Lepisto (Agoura, Agoura Hills) 6-0, 165, Sr.

Caught 48 passes as a junior, averaged 35 yards per punt and was effective as a shut down corner.

QB/RB -- Kellen Moriarty (Dos Pueblos, Goleta) 6-0, 185, Jr.

Played WR last year with Shane Lopes still at QB, but looked so good as a QB in the spring that he was a ballboy at the EA Sports Elite 11 QB Camp. Note: Ballboys often get invited to the same camp as seniors.

QB/ATH -- Dane Hodgson (San Luis Obispo) 6-2, 175, Sr.

Clocked 11.0 seconds in the 100-meter dash during the track season.
