Danny Moraga of Oxnard (Calif.) Pacifica will visit Fresno State

Oxnard (Calif.) Pacifica athlete Danny Moraga just pulled down a Fresno State offer, and will visit this weekend.

Tight end Daniel Moraga of Oxnard (Calif.) Pacifica is in the final hour of his recruiting period and recently, a new university entered his race to land him – Fresno State.

The Bulldogs not only extended an offer to him on Jan. 22, but new head coach Jeff Tedford sent linebackers coach Bert Watts and defensive coordinator Orlando Steinauer to visit him in his Oxnard home on Jan. 24.

Now, he’s made plans to take an official visit to Bulldog Lane during the weekend of Jan. 28, which is the final weekend colleges can host recruits before National Signing Day on Feb. 1.

“It feels great landing an offer from a big-time school in California,” Moraga told Scout, who added that Fresno State has emerged as his sixth offer along with Hawaii, New Mexico, Northern Colorado, Idaho, and Sacramento State. “The conversation (with the FS coaches) was strictly business. I know I have the ability to be successful on the collegiate level, so it was mostly about getting them to believe in the fact that I'm going to go to work when I get there.”

In the 805, Moraga doubled as a big body target known for making the tough grabs and a hard-nosed linebacker who pulverized opponents with his physicality. He said the Bulldog staff likes his game on both sides of the field. Moraga adds that he’s convinced the Bulldogs are heading toward the right direction following their 1-11 disaster this past season, which resulted in the entire coaching staff parting ways with the university and Tedford bringing in a new slate.

“I think they have taken a huge step in the right direction,” Moraga said. “They brought in a great head coach who understands the program because of his past experiences there and he knows what it takes to be successful.”

Moraga is no stranger to witnessing a fresh look himself. He came into Pacifica during a time there was a coaching transition. Pacifica has since built itself into a playoff caliber team in Ventura County.

“It's always fun to be a part of fresh starts. I went through a fresh start in high school, when Mike Moon took over the program my freshman year. We've transformed Pacifica into an Oxnard powerhouse,” Moraga said.

Moraga is one of three Ventura County prospects to land on the Bulldogs’ recruiting board for the remaining 2017 haul. Casey Roddick of Ventura (Calif.) St. Bonaventure and Zane Pope of Moorpark were the other nearby recipients of a recent FS offer, with the three-star Pope committing to the Bulldogs.
