Boys: J.C. Lewis (Las Lomas, Walnut Creek)
This junior quarterback bolted out of the gates quickly this season with 246 yards passing and three TDs plus 76 yards rushing in a victory over Piedmont and highly-recruited senior quarterback Drew Olson. Lewis continued to sizzle last week as he completed 21 of 23 passes for 334 yards and six TDs to lead Las Lomas past Campolindo of Moraga, 42-35, in overtime. Lewis had a 38-yard scoring toss to Joe Davis with 1:40 left that tied the score, then threw a 10-yarder to Clint Borel for the winning score in overtime.
Girls: Susie Boogaard (Valley Christian, Cerritos)
Boogaard was a freshman three seasons ago when Valley Christian was undefeated in volleyball and ranked No. 1 in the country by Student Sports. She's now one of the state's top seniors and last week had a season-high 43 hills in the Crusaders' 15-12, 9-15, 15-8, 15-10 victory over Warren of Downey. The big performance came just days after the 6-3 middle was named most valuable player at the Mayfair tourney. Boogaard also is a standout for Valley Christian in basketball.
