Notes & Highlights

With the San Diego Section's top ranked team, Helix of La Mesa, idle, Week 4's Friday night spotlight fell on No. 2 Carlsbad.  Unfortunately for the Lancers, they were never able to get untracked, managing only 174 yards total offense in a 28-0 shocking loss to the Rancho Buena Vista Longhorns at Vista........Bakersfield was dropped a notch behind Mission Viejo after defeating Div. III Tehachapi by 14-6 in a game that was scheduled as a result of cancellations from the week before. Mission Viejo rolled over Laguna Hills 35-3 and has a big game on the horizon in two weeks against Esperanza (nice Friday game for anyone in SoCal for the Saturday DLS-Poly showdown)......Chino received field goals of 48, 37, and 22 yards from freshman kicker Durrell Chamorro in its 37-0 victory last week over Quartz Hill Chamarro also was a perfect 3-for-3 on PATs. Rich Powers rushed for four TDs to lead the offense........Carson's defense, led by super junior Matthew Malele (6-3, 285), has allowed just 99 yards rushing in its first two games. The Colts followed up a 29-19 win over Long Beach Jordan with a 35-8 romp last week over Kennedy of Granada Hills. Their Jordan win then became more significant, and helped push them into this week's top 20, when the Bulldogs turned around last week and knocked off Ayala of Chino Hills (the team that tied Santa Margarita in its first game)..........
