This week's state rankings delayed to account for Monday games.....Preseason basketball coming on the weekend....Watch for two California QBs on ESPN2 on Tuesday night.....

You won't see any state football rankings on the web site on Monday so we can wait to include Monday night results. The Monday night games -- No. 9 Hart of Newhall is among those playing -- are taking place since so many games were postponed from last Friday due to the wildfires that were still burning throughout Southern California.

Football action will continue on Tuesday as two of the state's finest quarterbacks -- Corona's Brian Hildebrand and Canyon's Nate Longshore -- will be among those featured on ESPN2's telecast of the 2003 EA Sports Elite 11 Quarterback Camp. The one-hour special also includes an inside look at several other top high school quarterbacks, including John David Booty (now at USC), plus numerous shots of Mission Viejo coach Bob Johnson conducting chalk talks and passing drills.

The EA Sports Elite 11 QBs were originally scheduled to be profiled on ESPN2 last Saturday following college football, but the game between Kentucky and Arkansas lasted five hours and seven overtimes. The Tuesday showing also follows a college football game.

Later this week, we'll be finalizing our choices for the preseason overall top 20 as well as for top 10s in each CIF division in boys and girls basketball. We know many of the state's top teams began practiciing over the weekend. Readers are always welcome to send in their own comments and selections about who should be in the preseason rankings.
