Michael Gerrity is back on team

Michael Gerrity, a 6-0 point guard from Santa Ana (CA) Mater Dei is back on the team after leaving the team during the Monarchs' game versus St. John Bosco. He practiced with the team and is expected to play in their game Wednesday against Santa Margarita. College Basketball News got a chance to catch up with Michael's father, bob, to get the latest.

Michael Gerrity helped lead the Monarchs to a 35-2 mark as they defeated Roseville Woodcreek 70-49 to win the California Division II state title and finished the year ranked #3 by College Basketball News.

Head coach Gary McKnight told the Orange County Register about Gerrity's leaving the team.

"About five minutes into the third quarter," McKnight said, "I took him out to correct him on something. Later, I found out he had quit the team."

Gerrity did not play in the Monarchs' 72-57 victory over Bishop O'Dowd of Oakland in the Nike Extravaganza on Saturday night at Loyola Marymount.

Bob Gerrity said that the problem with his son and coach McKngiht was a "miscommuniation."

"It happened, but it is water under the bridge. He is moving forward. He's got a good realtionship with coach McKnight.

Gerrity played in the Nike All-American Camp last summer and he is invited to the Indianapolis camp again this July.

Bob Gerrtiy said that his son is getting plenty of mail from some of the top teams in the country.

Mater Dei is ranked #14 in the country by USA Today and has a big date with #1 Oak Hill Academy at the Prime Time Shootout.
