El Camino Girls Out Of Playoffs

El Camino Girls absent from playoffs...

One of the top girls high school basketball teams in San Diego will be on the outside looking in when the CIF playoffs open this week after two-time defending Division I champion El Camino was knocked out for using an ineligible player.

The Wildcats, who were 24-4 on the floor with a No. 6 San Diego county ranking and won the Avocado League championship with a 9-1 record, were forced to forfeit all but three games.

Unlike all other sports that use a committee system to determine playoff teams and seedings, in basketball the CIF uses a power rankings system to select postseason participants.

The system relies on won-loss percentage and strength of schedule. Information is computed and playoffs teams and pairings were posted Sunday afternoon.

El Camino's power rating placed the Wildcats at No. 18. Only 16 of 23 teams make the playoffs.

El Camino's three starting seniors ----- Megan Johnson, Nikki Oakland and Jolanda Diego are obviously hurt the most in this incident.  Their careers have been cut short due to the forfeits and endiing of their season.
