Colts hope win helps them net top seed in L.A. City Section playoffs. That quest also helped with Fremont's forfeit of a recent win over Crenshaw. Carson scored on two trick plays -- one off a fake reverse, the other off a fake field goal -- in beating the Pilots before 7,000 at El Camino College. Edison (Fresno) 33, Sunnyside 6
State's No. 2 ranked Div. II team looked ready for the postseason with easy win. Tigers were led by junior Clifton Smith, who rushed for 117 yards and one TD and scored on 67-yard pass reception. Clifton was the top corner last year as a junior to be at the Stanford Nike camp. Definitely could be one of nation's best prospects for next year.
Tustin 92, Ocean View (Huntington Beach) 0
Highest scoring game by one team in the state this year. Last week, Burbank of Sacramento won 86-0 against Kennedy of Sacramento. Tillers' coach Myron Miller took out starters at end of third quarter with team ahead, 67-0. William Johnson scored on 31-yard pass interception and on 22-yard fumble return.
St. Bonaventure 47, Carpinteria 0
Lorenzo Booker rushed for 262 yards on 14 carries and scored three times for the Seraphs, who upped win streak to 38 games. Booker now has 7,634 yards rushing for his career and needs just 51 more to surpass state record set last year by Tulare's Dominique Dorsey.
Chino 35, Glendora 3
Cowboys conclude perfect regular season by shutting down Glendora's Larry McGhee. He had 306 yards rushing last week against Don Lugo. This week he got only 29 against Chino.
Pinole Valley 35, Berkeley 14
D'Andre McFarland should move up more on state rushing, scoring lists after rolling up 157 yards and four more scores against Yellowjackets. Pinole wrapped up 9-1 season and won league title. Spartans will now enter one of best North Coast Section Class 4A playoffs in recent years. Say all you want about De La Salle being in a weak playoff, but this year the NCS 4A should include DLS (9-0), Pinole (9-1), San Leandro (10-0), Foothill of Pleasanton (9-0-1) and James Logan of Union City (9-1).
Union Mine 34, Encina (Sacramento) 18
Congratulations to new school Union Mine, which qualified for CIF Sac-Joaquin Section Div. III playoffs by virtue of win over Encina.
