Preseason Basketball Ranks By Division

It looks like Mater Dei is now Div. II; Artesia of Lakewood girls loaded for Div. II; Riordan boys and Bishop Montgomery girls look strong in Div. III; Garces of Bakersfield boys and Marin Catholic girls in Div. IV; Calvary Chapel (Downey) boys and La Jolla Country Day girls in Div. V.

BOYS BASKETBALL PRESEASON STATE RANKINGS BY DIVISION & REGION

(Note: We tried to place teams into their matching CIF state enrollment divisions as closely as possible. This was based on which division each team was in last year. Enrollment figures, however, change every year and some schools with totals near the cutoff point often go up and down depending on only a few students coming in or going out. Unless we've heard otherwise, we keep each team in its division from the year before. Exceptions for the list below were St. Mary's of Berkeley and Mater Dei of Santa Ana. We've already read several statements in which it was apparent that St. Mary's will be moving up to Div. I this year after winning the Div. IV state title last March. CIF Southern Section schools also are no longer allowed to move up in divisions at all. We've therefore placed Mater Dei in Div. II since that would be its enrollment division. The school's girls volleyball team will be competing this season for a Div. II state title, not Div. I. Please let us know of any other exceptions. We will adjust these preseason rankings in a week or so to reflect any other enrollment division corrections that need to be made.)
