Mitty Wins CCS Football Battle of San Jose Rivals

Robert Perry of Mitty and Gerald Green of Oak Grove kept delivering blows to the other's defenses, but when the dust cleared Mitty kept its unbeaten streak intact.

Robert Perry rushed for 140 yards on 13 carries, scored on a 33 yard reception and had a 50 yard punt return to set up a score as Mitty of San Jose won a wild Central Coast Section Div. I playoff game, 35-27, over Oak Grove of San Jose on Friday night at San Jose City College.

The Monarchs, ranked No. 13 in the state, improved to 12-0 and will play in next week's final versus Bellarmine of San Jose or Palma of Salinas.

Oak Grove went to the air in an attempt to upset Mitty and it nearly worked. Chris Bolding completed 19 of 37 passes for 332 yards and four touchdowns, while Gerald Green had 13 catches for 222 yards and two touchdowns.

Green also threw a 34 yard pass to James Malory in the third quarter that was the key play of the game. On the play, Malory fumbled into the end zone. Mitty recovered, thus denying Oak Grove a score that would have cut Mitty's lead to at least 28-25.

Mitty, which has an offense that strongly resembles the one used by NorCal power Elk Grove, then drove 80 yards in 11 plays for a touchdown that put Oak Grove into desperation mode.

Jason Oliver put Mitty on the board with a 76 yard touchdown run on the game's second play. Aaron Bates also had a strong game for Mitty with 146 yards passing and one touchdown.

Oak Grove finished 9-3. The Eagles lost 20-6 to Mitty earlier in the season.
