Sargeant found the endzone 20 times during his junior season, compiling 648 yards rushing while adding 24 receptions for 505 yards. So far, in three games this season, Lydell has amassed 550 yards and 7 touchdowns.
"We run the Wing-T offense," said Lydell, "so I'm in the slot and we run the I (I-Formation) and then sometimes they spread me out."
Sargeant also has one interception from his cornerback postion. He is being recruited to play running back or cornerback in college. Does he have a preference?
"No, I'll play whatever helps the team out. Whatever the coaches want me to play, I'll play. I think I have the ability to play anywhere on the field."
Lydell rattled off a list of 10 schools that have extended him scholarship offers. They are, in the order mentioned, San Diego State, Nevada and BYU.
Interest in the California athlete has picked up dramatically the past few months.
"Probably towards the end of the summer, like around July and August. I just got myself more exposure. I went to the camps and went to some college camps and just got exposure so everybody got to see me play."
In addition to various MSL and Nike Camps, Lydell attended camps at Arizona, San Diego State and Fresno State. He's also visited Stanford and Cal, and has already set up one official visit.
"I think I'm going out to Penn State November 6 and I'm taking officials to Oregon and North Carolina for sure. I'm setting those dates up probably at the end of this week. Then I have two more visits, so I'm going to narrow my list down to get two more visits."
Sargeant's official visit to Penn State will allow him to meet up with a friend.
"I actually used to live in Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania, and one of my good friends, Justin King, is going out there (Penn State) on the 6th. So, we're just going to go out together.
"I went to the same high school (Gateway) [as Justin]. We keep in touch probably like every couple weeks. My dad's in the Air Force, so we moved out here in my sophomore year. But, I lived in Pittsburgh for about 7 years."
Tom Bradley is recruiting Sargeant for the Nittany Lions.
"They called me last week and then he sent it (offer) out and I just got it this week. I talked to them this summer and then I sent my tape in from the first couple games and they saw that and just offered me.
"I grew up in Pittsburgh, so Penn State and Big 10 football is real big. I like the tradition they have there, it's real good. I just kind of grew up liking them.
"They're recruiting me as an athlete. Mostly corner, but when I get there, if it works out, they may want me as probably a kick returner, punt returner."
Sargeant is currently most intersted in 6 schools.
"My top 5 is Penn State, Oregon, Stanford, North Carolina and my last one is kind of a toss up between Utah and Fresno State."
Will he take an official visit to Stanford?
"I don't know. It's only 3 hours from here, so I've been up there a lot. I don't know if I'm going to use an official up there or not."
