Shawn Oatis Profile
Calif SS Shawn Oatis (5-11, 203, 4.6) says UCLA (visited) leads slightly over Notre Dame (childhood fave, 10/8 official trip), Ohio St (10/22 official trip), Oregon (visited), Oregon St (visited) and Arizona (visited). All have offered.
"UCLA is close to home and it's nice to see them on the up and up," says Oatis, from Chino Sr. "A lot of kids from the Inland Empire go there too. They truly are turning the program around. I like the coaching staff and how they produce great players that really know how to run and hit some people. They also have some big safeties over there and some real impact players on the team.
"Notre Dame has a great tradition and they really produce some top dollar athletes. With a degree from there, you have a good chance of coming out of that school and having its alumni help you out in the job world.
"Ohio St were national champs a few years ago and they are a top 25 team now. Their secondary coaches are good and the fan base there is crazy. I can't wait to take a trip there.
"Oregon's coach (John) Neal (secondary) is great. A lot of guys from my area have gone there and had great college careers. The coaching staff there is solid and it looks like they'll be sticking around for a while too. It's also a very nice and comfortable area to live in.
"I like Oregon St's coach (Nigel) Burton (CBs) and coach (Mike) Riley has spent a few years in the NFL--so he knows what he's doing. They are also building a new stadium over there. It's a toss up between who I like more--Oregon St or Oregon, but we'll have to see who beats who during the season.
"Arizona's coach (Mike) Stoops coming from Oklahoma says a lot. He's produced some great DBs in his time. It's also not too far away for my parent's to fly out for one of my games. Everyone there seems real friendly.
"After I visit Ohio St and Notre Dame I will have a good idea on where I will be going."
Other offers include Arizona St, San Diego St, Northwestern, BYU, Washington and Stanford.
