New Girls BB State Top 20

This week's biggest movement was caused when Ayala of Chino Hills defeated Troy of Fullerton last Saturday. Since the only other top 20 teams to lose were La Jolla Country Day and Long Beach Wilson, see who we dropped to make room for Ayala.

(All divisions; NorCal & SoCal combined)

1. (1) Lynwood 20-0

Thirteen was the lucky number for the Knights as they gave up just 13 points in two lopsided San Gabriel Valley League routs.

2. (2) Narbonne (Harbor City) 17-3

After rolling over two league foes, Gauchos ended the week with nifty win over Buena of Ventura.

3. (3) Poly (Long Beach) 24-0

Coach Carl Buggs' team passes major hurdle by beating Long Beach Wilson (63-42) and La Jolla Country Day (65-52).

4. (4) Artesia (Lakewood) 14-5

Superior guard play keyed 70-62 win over Pasadena Muir as Pioneers won despite Tye'sha Fluker of Muir outdueling Artesia's Lauren Ervin in the paint.

5. (5) Marin Catholic (Kentfield) 14-3

No one giving 16-1 Branson much of a chance in league matchup against Wildcats.

6. (6) San Clemente 16-3

Lindsey Pluimer scored 24 points as Tritons went on 29-4 run in third quarter to turn back Trabuco Hills, 74-44.

7. (9) Ventura 19-2

Cougars played Buena on Tuesday of this week and face Santa Barbara next week.

8. (8) La Jolla Country Day (La Jolla) 17-4

Playing and winning in an overtime game against Bishop's the night before probably helped Torres wilt in second half of L.B. Poly game.

9. (10) Brea-Olinda (Brea) 14-6

Ladycats earned 47-36 nonleague win last Saturday over Mater Dei behind Carrie Noyes, who had 16 points and 11 rebounds.

10. (11) Pinewood (Los Altos Hills) 15-2

Ten different players hit 3-point shots and 15 fell in all from beyond the arc in another one of those league romps.

11. (13) St. Mary's (Stockton) 18-3

Stellar junior Dominique Banks netted 26 points as Rams improved to 8-0 in league with 78-56 victory over Edison of Stockton.

12. (15) Santana (Santee) 20-1

In their only game of last week, 5-9 junior Jaime Ransom dropped in 28 points as Santana bombed El Cajon at home 69-30.

13. (nr) Ayala (Chino Hills) 19-4

Three Bulldogs reached double figures, led by Kia Riley with 18 points, as they knocked off former No. 7 Troy of Fullerton, 58-55, at the Ayala Extravaganza.

14. (7) Troy (Fullerton) 18-2

Warriors slide here after loss to Ayala since they still have a win over Woodbridge and their only other loss was to San Clemente.

15. (17) Woodbridge (Irvine) 21-2

Coach Eric Bangs' club has interesting test this week against Brea-Olinda.

16. (14) Bishop Montgomery (Torrance) 17-4

Knights have to drop a bit in this week's rankings since the team they last lost to, Long Beach Wilson, got blown out by Long Beach Poly.

17. (16) Bishop's (La Jolla) 17-4

A missed free throw with 2.9 seconds left could have won it for Bishop's against La Jolla Country Day. Alas, in overtime, it was LJCD that prevailed, 75-70.

18. (18) Hart (Newhall) 19-3

Sorry Saugus. Last week we said Hart would cruise through the Foothill League. Hart did win in last week's matchup, 42-32, but Centurions were no pushovers.

19. (19) Ursuline (Santa Rosa) 16-1

Monica Mertle leads the Bears in scoring with 15 ppg and the bench has been contributing a lot lately, too.

20. (20) Mitty (San Jose) 14-4

Mary-Eileen Gallagher went for 20 as Monarchs defeated Valley Christian, 65-50, in a key Mt. Hamilton League game.
