The Dorsey Dons, ranked No. 10 in California in the latest Cal-Hi Sports boys basketball rankings, saw their dreams of a Los Angeles City Section championship dashed Wednesday, in the aftermath of a December brawl in a game versus Gardena Serra that left players from both teams injured.
L.A. City Section assistant commissioner Jeff Halpern announced yesterday that Dorsey (14-5) had been declared ineligible for the playoffs and that two reserve players, Garnett Pickens and Michael Ledwith-Ball, had been suspended for the remainder of the season. Serra led the December game, 54-45, in the third quarter when the melee erupted. Dorsey will take a loss in that game, which was called.
The Dons also suffered a loss on the court Wednesday, dropping a Coliseum League game to Fremont, 76-67. The Pathfinders (18-4), the state's No. 20 team, got 17 points from Mark Bradford and 14 points and 12 boards from Daaron Brown in the win. Drew Gibson paced Dorsey with 19 points, while leading scorer Eric Flournoy managed only two.
