The Dorsey Dons, ranked No. 10 in California in the latest Cal-Hi Sports boys basketball rankings, will apparently be allowed to compete in the Los Angeles City Section playoffs after all, the Los Angeles Times reported this morning. Yesterday, the Times ran a story saying that Dorsey (14-5) had been declared ineligible for the playoffs and that two reserve players, Garnett Pickens and Michael Ledwith-Ball, had been suspended for the remainder of the season in the aftermath of a December brawl in a game versus Gardena Serra that left players from both teams injured.
But L.A. City Section assistant commissioner Jeff Halpern told the Times yesterday that Dorsey has not been declared ineligible for the playoffs, only that the school was on probation for the remainder of the season. The two players, however, remain suspended.
Dorsey is one of four powerful City Section squads – with Westchester, Fairfax and Fremont – that could compete for a section title. The championship game is March 2 at 7 p.m. at the Forum in Inglewood.
