State Athletes of the Week

The Riverside County marksman has two more breakout games, while Geis ends career with prolific totals.

State Athletes of the Week

Boys: Marvin Lea

(M.L. King, Riverside)

In two games last week, Lea was nothing short of awesome as he scored a triple-double in his team's 96-81 victory over Kaiser Fontana. Lea, a senior point guard, scored 46 points, pulled down 13 rebounds and passed out 10 assists, while M.L. King improved to 9-0 in league action. Lea followed up with 33 points, nine assists, eight rebounds, and five steals in a 103-81 defeat of Bloomington. Lea's sister, Markisha, is one of the top scorers in California on the girls side, which has some comparing the duo at least a little to perhaps the best brother-sister combination in basketball history, Reggie and Cheryl Miller, who are also from Riverside.

Girls: Kelly Geis

(El Segundo)

Geis, one of the top girls players in the state, had 40 points, with the aid of five 3-pointers, and added six steals to pace the Eagles to a 68-39 pounding of Compton Centennial. The only bad news was that the win did not do enough to get El Segundo into the CIF Southern Section playoffs. Geis thus ended her career with 1,970 points, 511 career free throws (a new section record) and made 247 from the 3-point line.

Final note: Check out for Marvin Lea's selection as the National Boys Athlete of the Week.
