Our next player spotlight comes from the defensive side of the ball. Elk Grove standout linebacker Ryan Coulson. Ryan accounted for over 145 tackles last season, at 6-3 and 225lbs with 4.7 speed, Ryan will easily be a sought after recruit this season. Here's what Ryan had to say.
PrepCa.com: What were your stats from last season?
Ryan: 145 tackles, 3 interceptions, 1 sack, and 1 fumble recovery, and on 16 receptions for 208 yards.
PrepCa.com: What is your official height, weight, bench, squat and 40 yard dash time?
Ryan: 6-3, 225 weight, 300 bench, 400 squat, and 4.7 40 times.
PrepCa.com: What has been your favorite football moment?
Ryan: My favorite football moment of my career was in my junior year when we played our cross town rival and I played one of my best games ever, I had 19 tackles and an interception for a touchdown.
PrepCa.com: What are your strengths as a football player?
Ryan: My strengths in football would have to be how well I read play's, flow to the ball and also 10 years of experience playing football.
PrepCa.com: What are your goals for this upcoming season?
Ryan: My goals for the upcoming season is to out do all the stuff I have accomplished the year before and to help lead my team to a championship.
PrepCa.com: What are you doing to prepare for next season?
Ryan: I am preparing for the off season work outs with the football team, and when not with the team I am working out on my own and doing a lot of running.
PrepCa.com: Do you play any other sports?
Ryan: I am on the schools wrestling team..
PrepCa.com: Who is currently recruiting you? Any early offers yet?
Ryan: Colorado, UCLA, and Nebraska. But no offers yet.
PrepCa.com: What can you bring to a college team?
Ryan: Someone who will lead bye example and someone who is reliable.
PrepCa.com: Name one teammate you respect and why?
Ryan: Ricky Carmichael because of his determination to perform at the highest and best level that he can. And I also admire how hard he trains.
PrepCa.com: What is the best piece of advice you have ever gotten? Who told you this?
Ryan: "The more I put into it , the more I will get out of it" and "lead, follow, or get out of the way" both from my dad
PrepCa.com: Who has been the most influential person in your life?
Ryan: My family and all of my past coaches. Also the tradition of football in my home town.
PrepCa.com: Will you be attending any camps this summer?
Ryan: Yes, but unsure on which ones.
PrepCa.com: Opposing coaches say you're a sideline to sideline type linebacker, how does that make you feel?
Ryan: That makes me feel good that other coaches give me the respect and I am very grateful of any compliments opposing coaches might say about me.
PrepCa.com: Name one opponent that you really respect.
Ryan: Nevada Union.
PrepCa.com: What are your goals as far as college goes?
Ryan: My goals for football are to hopefully go to a big college and play four years of college football and while getting a college education and as far as going past that point I would be honored to be able to play more years of football.
PrepCa.com: What do you like most about the game of football?
Ryan: I love the feeling after you make a big hit, a great tackle or a huge block.
