New State Top 20 Girls BB Rankings

Playoffs will be underway this week in the entire state except the CIF North Coast Section. Blowouts are the norm in the early rounds, but start looking for an upset or two as early as next week.

1. (1) Lynwood 25-0

Janice Bright scored 20 and Sa'de Wiley-Gatewood had 19 in 107-30 playoff-opening rout of El Rancho.

2. (2) Narbonne (Harbor City) 22-3

Double-doubles by Wilnett Crockett (14 pts, 10 rebs) and Jamie Funn (13 pts, 11 rebs) pace Gauchos in 74-31 L.A. City playoff win over Hamilton.

3. (3) Poly (Long Beach) 29-0

Neither the Jackrabbits or No. 1 Lynwood probably will be challenged until CIFSS Div. I-AA semifinals.

4. (4) Artesia (Lakewood) 21-5

Pioneers advanced in CIFSS Div. III-AA playoffs by routing Burroughs of Ridgecrest, 93-42. Next up is 23-2 South Hills.

5. (5) San Clemente 23-3

Soph standout Lindsey Pluimer had one of her best outings with 35 pts in 78-57 CIFSS Div. I-A playoff win over Valley View.

6. (6) Ventura 24-2

Did you know that the Cougars are the only team this year who've beaten 28-1 West of Tracy?

7. (9) Pinewood (Los Altos Hills) 23-2

Panthers complete impressive sweep of top NorCal foes with 43-41 win over Berkeley. Could face St. Mary's again in Div. II NorCal playoffs.

8. (8) Brea-Olinda (Brea) 20-6

Carrie Noyes makes noise with 24 points in 64-33 win over Laguna Hills. Next up in CIFSS Div. II-A playoffs is 18-10 Agoura.

9. (10) Marin Catholic (Kentfield) 21-4

Nicky Warren scored 19 points and Brooke Smith had 18 as Wildcats cruised past Redwood of Larkspur.

10. (11) St. Mary's (Stockton) 23-3

Rams wrapped up perfect run through league, but got seeded No. 2 in Sac-Joaquin Div. II playoffs behind West of Tracy.

11. (12) Ayala (Chino Hills) 24-4

Bulldogs won 17th straight by beating Downey, 73-30. They might run into 23-3 Eisenhower in CIFSS Div. I-AA quarterfinals.

12. (13) Troy (Fullerton) 25-2

Another big-time outing for Alicia Komaki with 24 points and 10 steals in 75-30 CIFSS Div. II playoff win over Villa Park.

13. (14) Bishop's (La Jolla) 22-3

Mallorie Winn starred with 21 points, 11 rebounds and terrific "d" against Candice Wiggins as Knights beat LJCD, 63-52.

14. (7) La Jolla Country Day (La Jolla) 20-5

Both Candice Wiggins and Marissa Rivera fouled out in loss to Bishop's, a team the Torres beat in overtime earlier this season.

15. (15) Ursuline (Santa Rosa) 25-1

Perhaps the state's top Div. IV playoffs will be in the North Coast where Ursuline and Marin Catholic will vie for the top seed.

16. (16) Bishop Montgomery (Torrance) 21-5

Noelle Quinn came up big with 26 pts, 10 rebounds, seven assists and five steals in easy CIFSS Div. III playoff win vs. Nordhoff.

17. (17) Berkeley 18-8

Hard to drop the Jackets at all for losing by two to Pinewood. Another team they beat could win state title in Arizona.

18. (18) Santana (Santee) 25-2

Sultans will enjoy a first-round bye in what shapes up as a dogfight for the CIFSD Div. III crown.

19. (19) Wilson (Long Beach) 24-5

Bruins are hoping they can take a crack at No. 1 Lynwood in CIFSS Div. I-AA semifinals.

20. (20) Esperanza (Anaheim) 23-4

If Aztecs win first game this week, next up would be probable matchup against L.B. Wilson.
