Player Spotlight: Andre Harris

Interview with the Taft running back

Our next spotlight comes from Taft High School runningback Andre Harris.  Last season Harris averaged over 9 yards a carry, with his size and speed he will no doubt be one of the most heavily recruited players this season.  Here's what he had to say.

PrepCa.com: What were your stats from last season?
Andre: 922 Yards 7 TD, 122 yards return yards. 1 interception returned 105 yards for a touchdown.

PrepCa.com: What is your official height, weight, bench, squat, power clean and 40 yard time?
Andre: 6'0" 205, 295 bench, 410 Squat, Power Clean 390, 40 4.52.

PrepCa.com: What is your favorite football moment in your career?
Andre: 105 yd Interception Return against Sylmar. Playing Pee Wee football because my dad was our coach.

PrepCa.com: What are your strengths as a football player?
Andre: Balance, Strength, Agility, Poise, Pass Blocking.

PrepCa.com: What are your weaknesses as a football player?
Andre: Linebacker reads, cut blocking defensive ends, motioning to receiver.

PrepCa.com: Name some teammates people need to watch out for?
Andre: Jamare Holland.

PrepCa.com: What are your goals for this upcoming season?
Andre: 1850 yd 22 TD.

PrepCa.com: What are you doing to prepare for next season?
Andre: Running with Strength Shoes, Power Lifting, Sprints.

PrepCa.com: What other sports do you play?
Andre: Lacrosse.

PrepCa.com:
Who is currently recruiting you? Any early offers yet?
Andre: USC, CAL, Notre Dame, and UCLA.

PrepCa.com: How would your coach describe you as a player?
Andre: Coach Starr would say I am a team player willing to stretch myself for the team. He would say I have a great balance of speed and power and can serve as the corner stone of a college offense.

PrepCa.com: Who is your favorite professional athlete in any sport and why?
Andre: Marcus Allen, he was a great example of what it takes to work through balancing how to perform and be a professional in tough situations.

PrepCa.com: What is the best piece of advice you have ever received who did you hear it from?
Andre: My father once said "Don't get stuck. Too many athletes hit a pothole and don't keep moving."

Who is the most influential person in your life?
Andre: My mother she is a do it all and works hard at keeping me relaxed and comfortable.

PrepCa.com: What can we expect from your team next season?
Andre: Big time plays, and Big time numbers. CITY CHAMPS

PrepCa.com: Will you be attending any camps this summer?
Andre: USC, Notre Dame, CAL, Florida State, I'll probably attend their camps.

PrepCa.com:
Will you consider staying in state to play next season?
Andre: Yes definitely.

PrepCa.com:
Who is the toughest opponent you've played against? What football program do you respect most?
Andre: I liked playing CJ Gable. I got a good hit on him once…. He is a good player. Dorsey HS has a great program under Coach Knox with Stafon Johnson.

PrepCa.com: What are your goals as far as playing football and or college?
Andre: To be balanced and a good role model.

PrepCa.com: What do you like most about the game of football?
Andre: I like the ability to play a sport that is extremely team oriented. If one guy slips it all falls apart so everyone is vital…

PrepCa.com: Any idea what are you would like to study in college?
Andre: Business or Marketing. Still deciding.
