Player Spotlight: Marquez Herrod

Last year Marquez Herrod of Escondido San Pasqual high school was a big part of the teams 8-3 season.  From the defensive end position, Herrod registered twelve tackles behind the line of scrimmage, four of which were sacks. At 6'2 and 222 pounds, Herrod possesses good speed. He runs a 4.7 forty and posted a 50.0 400 meters this track season. After a solid showing at the UCLA/ Nike combine, Herrod is starting to gain attention from recruiters across the nation.  He currently holds a 2.56 GPA and took the SAT this past Saturday.

 

24-7: What is your favorite thing about playing high school football?

Marquez Herrod: The Opportunity to participate and compete in every game against a rival.  It is real football unlike the NFL, we are playing for pride.

 

24-7: How are you preparing for this upcoming season? Are you going to any camps?

Marquez Herrod: I'm working out five days a week and running track.  I'm going to the UCLA camp, the Arizona camp and the Colorado camp.

 

24-7: What positions are you being recruited to play in college? 

Marquez Herrod: I'm being recruited to play defensive end/ rush specialist.

 

24-7: What is your official height and weight?

Marquez Herrod: 6'2 1/2 222 pounds.

 

24-7: What is your greatest football memory?

Marquez Herrod: St. Augustine game last year.  We had a big come back in the fourth quarter, winning  43-37.

 

24-7: What are your personal goals for the upcoming season?

Marquez Herrod: Improve my speed and tackling ability and keying on all my reads.

 

24-7: What aspect of your game have you worked hard to improve? What area would you like to keep improving on?

Marquez Herrod: Reading keys and knowing where I need to go.

 

24-7: Who are some of your teammates that people need to watch out for?

Marquez Herrod: Dan Soulds our DB is a solid player. 

 

24-7:  Name one teammate you really respect and tell us why?

Marquez Herrod:  Sean Adams our running back. He is working hard in the classroom and weight room.  He is on his toes all the time.

 

24-7:  Who is currently recruiting you? Do you have any offers yet? Who are your top 5?

Marquez Herrod: My top five would be the University of Arizona, Colorado, UCLA, UTEP and Georgia Tech.   Recently Oregon University is showing interest.  I have not been given any offers yet.

 

24-7: Who is the best player you ever played against? Why?

Marquez Herrod:  Jason Forcier the quarterback at St. Augustine.  He is currently at Michigan. 

 

24-7:  What other sports do you play?

Marquez Herrod: Track and wrestling.  I did wrestling as a favor to one of the coaches.

 

24-7: What are your best max lifts in the bench, squat, power clean and 40 yard dash?

Marquez Herrod: I bench 315, squat 380, clean 265 and run the forty in 4.75.

 

24-7:  How do you think your coach would describe you as a player?

Marquez Herrod:  Fast on the ball. I hustle to the ball and I'm a leader.

 

24-7: What is the best piece of advice you have ever received?

Marquez Herrod:  Never stop just keep going.
