STATE TOP 20 OVERALL
(All divisions combined; after games of Feb. 23; last week rank in parentheses)
1. (1) Lynwood 27-0
Knights headed into CIF Southern Section Div. I-AA semis looking good. Won 74-50 over Redlands and 77-52 over Millikan last week.
2. (2) Narbonne (Harbor City) 24-3
Gauchos had already routed Gardena twice so last week's 66-40 win over the Mohicans in the L.A. City semis was somewhat boring.
3. (3) Poly (Long Beach) 31-0
A scare for the Jackrabbits as they won a CIFSS Div. I-AA playoff game by just 44-42 over Palmdale.
4. (4) Artesia (Lakewood) 23-5
Coach Scott Roczey said his team played its best game since Lauren Ervin departed in 67-40 win over Newbury Park.
5. (5) San Clemente 25-3
Tritons moved into CIFSS Div. I-A semis vs. Edison after downing Corona, 69-45, behind 24 more points from Lindsey Pluimer.
6. (6) Ventura 26-2
Jenni Dooley sparkled with 31 and 21 points in two CIFSS Div. II-A playoff games. Next up is Troy with a section title on the line.
7. (7) Pinewood (Los Altos Hills) 24-2
Heading into this week's CCS Div. II playoffs, the only team that looks like it could give the Panthers a scare is 25-3 Soquel.
8. (11) Troy (Fullerton) 27-2
Impressive wins over Saugus (62-31) and Norco (69-63) push the Warriors up three spots. Saugus, remember, just beat Hart in a league game.
9. (9) Marin Catholic (Kentfield) 23-4
Casey Lockwood and Lauren Michalski joined Brooke Smith and Nickie Warren in double figures as Wildcats clawed Branson, 61-36, in league final.
10. (10) St. Mary's (Stockton) 27-3
It was a vintage performance by the Rams in the Sac-Joaquin Div. II quarterfinals as Dominique Banks scored 21 in 53-37 win over Vintage.
11. (11) Ayala (Chino Hills) 26-4
Kia Riley had 18 points and nine rebounds in 59-54 win over Eisenhower that advanced Bulldogs into CIFSS Div. I-AA semifinals.
12. (13) Bishop's (La Jolla) 23-3
Knights should have little problem in winning another San Diego Section Div. IV title. Last week they won 78-21 in playoffs over Imperial and led 38-8 at the half.
13. (14) La Jolla Country Day (La Jolla) 21-5
Triple-double for Candice Wiggins with 35 pts, 15 rebs and 13 steals in 92-38 romp past Tri-City Christian in CIFSD Div. V playoffs.
14. (15) Ursuline (Santa Rosa) 27-1
Christy Titchenal connected for 19 points as Bears beat Ukiah for North Bay League championship.
15. (16) Bishop Montgomery (Torrance) 21-5
It'll be the Knights vs. Pasadena Muir and 6-5 post Ty'sha Fluker in this week's CIFSS Div. III-A title game. Noelle Quinn had 27 points in semi win over Santa Ynez.
16. (19) Wilson (Long Beach) 26-5
Bruins hoping to shock the world vs. Lynwood on Tuesday in CIFSS Div. I-AA semis. Defeated Esperanza in quarters in what some called "an upset." Not by us.
17. (17) Berkeley 19-8
Coach Gene Nakamura sure must be glad his program got "competitive anomaly" status by the NCS as it allowed him to put together a very tough regular season schedule.
18. (18) Santana (Santee) 25-2
San Diego's defending Div. III champ, University, got whacked by the Sultans, 55-40, in last week's quarterfinals. Santana in semis vs. Kearny.
19. (nr) Modesto Christian 29-2
The probable opponent of La Jolla Country Day in Div. V state final also has a win this season over Berkeley.
20. (nr) Pleasant Valley (Chico) 23-2
Vikings also have a win over Berkeley, but have lost to St. Mary's (a team Berkeley beat) and to section rival Foothill (a team PV routed in a rematch).
