Player Spotlight: Scott Garner

Interview with Ventura HS Linebacker

Our next interview comes from Ventura HS linebacker Scott Garner. Scott was a 1st Team All Channel League selection and a 1st Team All Ventura County selection last year while leading his team to the CIF championship game. Take a look at what he had to say…

 

PrepCA: What were your stats from last season? 

Scott Garner: LB stats: tackles- 82, sacks- 6 interceptions- 2, forced fumbles- 4, fumble recoveries- 3.  Offense: 11 receptions for 209 yards.

PrepCA: What is your official height and weight?

Scott: 6' 1.5", 190 lbs.


PrepCA: What is your greatest football memory?

Scott: 2004 Div IV championship game.

PrepCA: What are your goals for the upcoming season?

Scott: Win Channel League and return to the finals.

PrepCA: How are you preparing for the upcoming season? 

Scott: Of course weights in the morning but I'm also doing extra cardio and speed drills. 

 

PrepCA: Will you attend any camps this summer?

Scott: I've been to USC the past 2 years. I'm looking to maybe go to Washington or Michigan camp this year.

PrepCA: What aspect of your game have you really worked hard to improve?

Scott: Speed and quickness.   

 

PrepCA: What area would you like to keep improving on?

Scott: Speed.

PrepCA: Who are some of your teammates that people need to watch out for?

Scott: The entire VHS offensive line. They should make Lee Mondol's (Ventura QB) job easier.

PrepCA: Name one teammate you really respect and why? 

Scott: Armondo Tovar. He probably won't get much playing time but he works damn hard.

PrepCA: What are your goals regarding playing football in college?

Scott: My goal is to play for a division I school.

PrepCA: Who is currently recruiting you?

Scott: Washington, Arizona St., Arizona, Idaho St., Oregon and Duke.   

 

PrepCA: Do you have any offers yet?

Scott: No.

PrepCA: Would you consider staying in state to play in college?

Scott: Yes.

PrepCA: What would your top 5 college choices be?

Scott: Hawaii, San Diego St., Washington, Arizona, Arizona St. and Fresno St.


PrepCA: What other sports do you play?

Scott: Baseball.  I was voted to the 1st team all Channel League.

PrepCA: What are your best lifts in the bench, squat, power clean and 40?

Scott: Bench- 250, Squat-350, Power clean- 225 and 40- 4.7

PrepCA: How do you think your coach would describe you as a player?

Scott: Intelligent student of the game.

PrepCA: What is the best piece of advice you have ever received?

Scott: Don't practice unless you are going to practice it 100% right.

PrepCA: Tell us what can we expect from your team this season?

Scott: We should be explosive on offense this year and again have a very tough defense.

PrepCA: What position do you think you will play in college?

Scott: I would like to play OLB.

PrepCA: What can a college program expect from you as a player?

Scott: I will give a great effort, be a reliable team member and a responsible student.  Give 110%.
