Northern California Top 20 Rankings

(Updated after games of Sat. night, March 3)

(For the purposes of our new TV show, which does not reach many cities beyond the San Francisco Bay Area, we define Northern California for these rankings as not to include schools from the CIF Central Section. For our own geographically-based rankings, we include the CIF Central Section as Northern California)

From a NorCal rankings standpoint, the three biggest section title games played Saturday were De La Salle vs. St. Mary's in NCS Div. I boys, Marin Catholic vs. Ursuline in NCS Div. IV girls and Sacred Heart Cathedral vs. Riordan in CCS Div. III boys.

De La Salle defeated St. Mary's 76-70 in the NCS final despite John Sharper scoring 34 points for St. Mary's. Rekalin Sims has surged in recent weeks for the Spartans and had 22 points and 10 rebounds. Taylor Pena also gave De La Salle a big lift with 15 points off the bendh.

Ursuline improved to 30-1 in defeating Marin Catholic, 42-37. The Bears only gave up two points in the fourth quarter in beating the state's No. 1 ranked Div. IV squad. Don't be surprised to see these two battle again in the NorCal finals.

Sacred Heart Cathedral was determined to prove its recent win over Riordan in the WCAL playoff was no fluke even through Riordan won twice earlier in the season. The Irish won again, this time by 54-50. Marquise Kately scored 29 points for Riordan, but the rest of the Crusaders' supporting cast was not effective. Odioh Odiye led the winners with 19 points.
