Keep an eye on the following kid. Offensive tackle Sam DeMartinis is only going to be a junior but the Notre Dame HS player stands 6'6 255 and has the frame to pack on a ton more weight and be a highly recruited player. Here is an early chat with him…

 

PrepCA: What were your stats from last season?

Sam DeMartinis: 20 pancakes.

 

PrepCA: What is your official height and weight?

Sam: 6'6'' 255lbs.

 

PrepCA: What is your greatest football memory?

Sam: Playing on Friday nights, seeing all the fans and starting my first game.

 

PrepCA: What are your goals for the upcoming season?

Sam: To make All-CIF, All-League, to win Division 3, to average 15 pancakes a game and be a leader.

 

PrepCA: How are you preparing for the upcoming season? Will you attend any camps this summer?

Sam: I am working hard in the weight room and on the field and improving my speed and quickness.  I have attended the Rivals.com Nike Camp at USC and the Scout.com All-American Combine at El Camino College.

 

PrepCA: What aspect of your game have you really worked hard to improve? What area would you like to keep improving on?

Sam: I have worked really hard on finishing blocks and playing to the whistle, I still need to improve on that.  But I would like to keep improving my quickness of the ball, quickness overall, and speed.

 

PrepCA: Who are some of your teammates that people need to watch out for?

Sam: Garrett Green, Rodney Glass, Kai Forbath, Drew Abeyta, Shane Horton and Charlie Carmichael, to name a few.

 

PrepCA: Name one teammate you really respect and why?

Sam: Garrett Green, he is a really good guy on and off the field.  I like the way he takes control as our quarterback and he has great leadership skills.

 

PrepCA: What are your goals regarding playing football in college?

Sam: I would definitely like to play in college; that is my overall goal.

 

PrepCA: Would you consider staying in state to play in college?

Sam: It would be nice to stay close to home and play but right now I am open to anyone.

 

PrepCA: I know you are just a junior but what would a very early top 5 college choices be? Any early verbal offers?

Sam: Not in any order, but, Arizona State, USC, UCLA, California and San Diego State.  I currently have no verbal offers.

 

PrepCA: Who is the best player you ever played against? Why?

Sam: Logan Paulsen, because he is the player who I played when I started my only game.

 

PrepCA: What other sports do you play?

Sam: I throw shot-put during the spring.

 

PrepCA: What are your best lifts in the bench, squat, power clean and 40?

Sam: We will be maxing in about three weeks but this is what I expect: over 300lbs on bench, over 400 on squats, over 230 on power cleans and I ran a 5.48 at the USC Nike Camp.

 

PrepCA: How do you think your coach would describe you as a player?

Sam: He would say that I stick on my blocks well and that he is looking for me to step it up this upcoming year.

 

PrepCA: Who is your favorite athlete and why?

Sam: My favorite athlete is Mark Madsen because I like the way he hustles and he always plays hard.

 

PrepCA: What is the best piece of advice you have ever received?

Sam: Work hard and be the best you can be.

 

PrepCA: Tell us what can we expect from your team this season?

Sam: My team is going to be good. We have a good chance to win the Mission League and to win Division 3.

 

PrepCA: What position do you think you will play in college?

Sam: I think I will play Offensive Tackle.

 

PrepCA: What can a college program expect from you as a player?

Sam: They can expect me to work hard contribute to the great program.
