Cal-Hi Sports Bay Area TV Show Ratings

Wilcox wins the final of the Valley Christian tourney and Mitty loses in the final of its own West Coast Classic, so there's a switch atop this week's rankings affiliated with our KGO San Francisco TV show. Carlmont still No. 1 in softball.

Northern California Top 20 Rankings

(Updated after games of Sat. night, April 6)

(For the purposes of our new TV show, which does not reach many cities beyond the San Francisco Bay Area, we define Northern California for these rankings as not to include schools from the CIF Central Section. For our own geographically-based rankings, we include the CIF Central Section as Northern California)

Notes:

Darrell Sales pitched a two-hitter as Wilcox blanked Belllarmine 4-0 in the final game on Saturday of the Valley Christian tourney. Sales is just a junior and is one of several strong underclass players for the Warriors. Wilcox advanced to the final with a thrilling 9-4 win in extra innings over host Valley Christian.

Amador Valley has emerged as yet another top team to watch in the highly-competitive East Bay Athletic League. The Dons won last week's Willie Stargell Classic and took out Encinal and Newark Memorial in their last two games. Preseason league favorite Granada had a disappointing 0-4 showing at the Toyo National Classic in Southern California, but the tourney features many top programs from around the country so it still shouldn't make anyone in the EBAL less concerned about the Matadors.

Monterey won its third straight Easter Classic tourney on Saturday with an 11-0 win over North Monterey County. Freshman Joey Parigi notched two pitching wins in the tourney for the Toreadors. Against NMC, Fadi Asfoor led the offense with a pair of doubles and four RBI.

Here's the up-to-date softball rankings (through Saturday's games, but not all results may have been reported as of Sunday morning):

Notes

Ever heard of someone throwing a no-hitter in extra innings and still losing? Happened last week to All-American pitcher Alicia Hollowell of Fairfield. She had a no-hitter against Chaminade of West Hills in the Best of the West tourney in Santa Maria and her team lost 1-0 in nine innings. Hollowell also had a regulation-length no-hitter the same day in a 1-0 win over Johnson of Sacramento.

Livermore moved up in a big way in this week's rankings after winning it own Livermore Stampede. The Cowboys topped league rival Foothill of Pleasanton, 6-4, in the title game. Arroyo and Pittsburg were both in our first rankings last week, but lost at least twice in the Stampede and were dropped from this week's poll.
