Each week we will look at some of the top prep football performers in Northern California. As the season goes on we get to know some of the emerging stars from the region.
Alhambra RB Brandon Rutley went big in a win over Dublin as he rushed for over 270 yards and added three TDs. Not to be out done McClymonds' runner Rico Thomas averaged and astounding twenty yards a carry while helping his team defeat Granada. Junior runner Louis Arnold went for just over 200 yards in Bishop O' Dowd's victory against Tennyson.
Two quarterbacks that had big nights in their team's wins were Monte Vista QB Drew McCallister and Yosemite QB Chris Rolff. McCallister, just a sophomore, had 300 combined offensive yards while Rolff threw three touchdowns in Yosemite's big upset win over Edison.
A receiver who had a big night was Anthony McCoy of Fresno Bullard who hauled in eight catches in his team's close win over Clovis.
Defensively Donald Pearson had three picks, taking one back for a TD, in Mt.Eden's win over Moreau Catholic.
Players to Watch:
Justin Sweeney of Gilroy may be small by football standards 5'9 165, but he is big on the field averaging over 200 yards rushing a game thus far this season.
Terijean Saffold of Weston Ranch has also rushed for over 400 yards in two games. 217 came in a victory over Ceres Friday night.
Hayward QB Tyler Davis threw three 1st half touchdowns on the way to a big 50-14 win over Castro Valley. The 6'3 205 Davis' name may sound new to area fans. Last year Davis played at Fairview High School in Boulder Colorado. Keep an eye out.
