Tale of the Tape: Todd Sciacqua

Video Evaluation of Tesoro Quarterback

Name: Todd Sciacqua

Position: QB

School: Tesoro HS (Las Flores, CA)

Senior Stats: 73 of 120 for 1,087 yards with 13 TDs versus 3 INTs

Height: 6'0  Weight: 173 (both self reported)

Breakdown: (1 full game from senior season)

Todd plays out of a traditional split back, 2 wide out offense. He is asked to make high percentage throws with a low chance for error to keep his offense moving. And that is exactly what he as done thus far in the season, leading his team to a 5-1 start and completing nearly 61% of his passes.

Sciacqua is used as more of a pocket passer than a scrambling type QB, he has only 7 run attempts on the season. He shows okay speed and scrambling ability but I would not call it great speed. He shows good mechanics, keeping the ball up by his ear, shows a clean throwing motion and good follow through. I would like to see him go through his progression more. He tends to lock onto one receiver. I don't say they I blame him though as he has one of the areas best receivers to throw to in Scott McKnight.

He throws an okay ball. It is catchable and usually has a good spiral but his passes tend to have air underneath them. This causes him to miss his receivers high and could lead to interceptions at the next level. He shows good accuracy on the short passes in the flats and on intermediate throws. I did not get to see him make many deep passes. But from what I could see, I would say he has a good arm.

Todd's size is one thing that stands out on film. He is reported at 6' 173 and he looks smaller than that on film. That size alone is going to keep many recruiters away.

My opinion of Todd is that he is an efficient high school quarterback. I do not think he has the size or the arm strength to play at the division 1 level but would encourage him to pursue division 2 and division 3 opportunities in California, as they play some good football in those conferences and not many people get to play even at that level.

I would like thank Todd and his family for giving the time and effort to send us a tape and wish Todd and his team continued success this season. Anyone wishing to have their video evaluated, please email jason@24-7football.com.
