Notes

Although the Sacramento Bee is currently ranking Johnson No. 1 in its area, we're sticking with Sheldon until it loses. Both teams play strong schedules so the situation should work itself out on the field.

The best team in the Sac-Joaquin Section, though, might turn out to again be Fairfield. The Falcons struggled early in the season in tough tournaments, but their third tourney of the season last week was a huge success. They were the first team west of the Mississippi to play at the Wendy's Spring Classic in Ohio and won three times, beating defending state champs from Kentucky and Ohio as well as a nationally-ranked foe from Illinois. All-time national strikeout leader Alicia Hollowell lived up to her reputation with 50 strikeouts against those teams, all on the same day.

Speaking of being busy in a day, Notre Dame of Salinas won five times on Saturday in the continuation of the Watsonville tournament. One of the wins was by 1-0 over Gilroy and the result gave Notre Dame coach Joe Given his 500th career win. Congratulations to Coach Given.
