Player Profile: Brandon Rutley

RB Has Strong Junior Campaign

This past season Alhambra High School of Martinez California put together a 6 and 4 season and just barely missed out on playoffs.  The primary catalyst for this success was the work of junior RB Brandon Rutley.  On the year, Rutley rushed for 1,949 yards and twenty-five TDs averaging over ten yards a carry.  By the end of the season Rutley was no longer a secret and now stands as one of the top returning backs in California next year.  Recently PrepCA was able to interview Brandon.

PrepCA: What is your favorite thing about playing high school football?

Brandon: High school football is real.  It means a lot to us kids.  After high school it will be very serious and more like a job.  I enjoy playing with the guys I've grown up with.  After high school, everything changes.

PrepCA: What is your official height and weight?

Brandon:  5'10", 180 pounds.

PrepCA: How did you prepare for this season?  Did you attend any camps this summer?  Have you gone to any combines?

Brandon: I just went to regular pre-season practice and one camp at San Jose State.  It was great! I feel like I did very well.  I will be going to some combines this summer, before my senior year.

PrepCA: Who are some of your teammates that people need to watch out for?

Brandon:  Justin Frazier our nose guard.  He did not get the playing time he should have or he would have better stats.  I think he will do well where ever he plays next.

PrepCA: What are your goals regarding playing football in college?

Brandon:  look forward to the competition.  I hope that it will improve my game and that I will learn more.

PrepCA: Have schools started to contact you?

Brandon: Yes, several.

PrepCA: Which schools are showing the most interest?

Brandon: Washington, Fresno and San Jose State.

PrepCA: Which schools are you most interested in?

Brandon: Any west coast schools, such as CAL.  I go to a lot of CAL games and I think they have a great coach and a great program.

PrepCA: What other sports do you play?

Brandon:  Basketball and track.

PrepCA: What are your best max lifts in the bench, squat, power clean and 40 yard dash?

Brandon:  Bench-240, squat-410, power clean-225, and 40 yard dash-4.47.

PrepCA: How do you think your coach would describe you as a player?

Brandon: I think he knows I work hard and play the game hard.  I do what he asks and I respect him.

PrepCA: You play on both sides of the ball; do you see yourself as an offensive or defensive player?

Brandon:  Definitely offensive.

PrepCA would like to thank Brandon for his time and we wish him luck next season.
