Stanford Nike Camp from A to Z

The first installment of a series of columns generated from this year's Nike Camp at Stanford is about De La Salle and Long Beach Poly and who had the top marks in the various testing events.

De La Salle Delights

The two top returnees for next season's team -- running back Maurice Drew and corner Damon Jenkins -- were not there due to track commitments, but another strong contingent of Spartans showed what they do best. It's those quick feet. DLS players clocked 4.04, 4.04, 4.09 and 4.16 in the shuttle.

Britt Cecil 5-11, 170, QB

You think the option might be more back in the DLS arsenal? Britt's outstanding 4.04 in the shuttle shows he's got the quick feet to do the job.

John Chan 6-0 1/2, 230, OL-DL-LB

Possibly a linebacker recruit for college but strictly an OL-DL for the Spartans, Chan did 21 on the bench, clocked 4.21 in the shuttle, measured 32.4 in the vertical and clocked 4.72 in the 40.

DeMontae Fitzgerald 5-11 1/2, 170, WR

Looks to have a strong senior season. Clocked 4.50 in the 40, 4.16 in the shuttle and leaped 31.6 in the vertical.

Willie Glasper 5-10 1/2, 164, DB

Could be one of the top junior DBs in NorCal next season. Willie ran a 4.04 shuttle (tied for 2nd best on the day) and also had a 4.54 in the 40, a 31.9 vertical and did 11 on the bench.

Gino Ottoboni 5-6, 170, RB

Coach Lad might have to find some carries for Gino this season. He ran a 4.51 in the 40 and had one of the camp's top marks in the shuttle at 4.09.

Erik Sandie 6-0 1/2, 246, OL/DL

He's going to be asked to help fill the void from graduated standout Derek Landri. Posted good all-around testing numbers of 4.79 in the 40, 23 on the bench, 4.43 in the shuttle and 27.6 in the vertical.

The Power of Poly

Jackrabbits were standing out all over the field on Saturday. Here are the best who turned in top marks in on-the-field tests:

Kevin Brown 6-2, 284, OL-DT

Is it our imagination or do the Jackrabbits know that to beat De La Salle next year they're going to have to work harder than they ever have? Kevin was one of several Poly players who came all the way up to Stanford for another dose of the Nike camp. He was perhaps the top lineman there, too. He was tied for first in the bench with 37 reps and also clocked 5.16 in the 40, 4.59 in the shuttle and had a 26-inch vertical leap.

Lorenzo Bursey 5-8, 155, RB

Transfer from Beverly Hills may be the starter who replaces Herschel Dennis. Did 20 on the bench with a 4.13 shuttle, 32.7 vertical and 4.50 in the 40.

Freddie Parrish 6-0, 185, DB

Contender for camp MVP was first in the shuttle with 4.01 clocking. Also did 18 reps on the bench and timed 4.54 in the 40.

Dwayne Washington 5-4, 150, RB-DB

He's tiny, but Dwayne's got it in other ways. Marks included 4.47 in the 40, 4.31 in the shuttle and 33.7 vertical.

Mark Washington 6-1, 238, LB

He keeps getting better and better (so watch out De La Salle). Mark checked in at Stanford with a 4.72 in the 40, a 28.7 vertical, a 4.53 shuttle and 25 on the bench.

Note: Offensive lineman Hercules Satele along with Junior Lemau'u and Josh Tauanuu, two defensive linemen, both stood out in lineman drills. Quarterback Leon Jackson also was listed as doing well among those who participated in the throwing drills and in the one-on-one showcase.
