State Athletes of the Week

The honors for games of May 13-18 go out to a softball pitcher who's been particularly stingy giving up runs and a track athlete from a Central Section school with a legitimate shot at the CIF state meet team title.

State Athletes of the Week

Boys: Thomas Mack

Led the Drillers to their 32nd section team title in boys track with first-place finishes in the 110 and 300 hurdles. Mack timed 14.08 seconds in the shorter event and went 37.76 in the longer. He also helped Drillers go 41.80 in the 4x100 relay. Mack is currently ranked No. 1 in the state in both hurdle events with best times of 14.04 and 37.28.

Girls: Michelle Turner

(Kennedy, La Palma)

The UCLA bound hurler pitched her 13th straight shutout and 20th of the season, leading Kennedy to a thrilling 1-0 victory over Corona in the opening round of the CIFSS Div. II playoffs. Turner currently has a streak of 99 consecutive scoreless innings pitched. She also is regarded as one of the top hitters in Orange County as well.
