Recruiting Update: Marquez Herrod

San Pasqual DE Talks About Picking Colorado

Marquez Herrod of San Pasqual, one of the top pass rushers in California, will sign with Colorado on Wednesday.  The 6'2 235 pound DE had originally committed to Oregon State but recently decided that Boulder was a better fit for him.  Herrod, brings a nice combination of speed and strength to the Buffalo D.  Reently PrepCA had the chance to talk to Marquez.

PrepCA:  With the switch from Oregon State to Colorado, I have to ask, will it still be Colorado on Wednesday?

Marquez Herrod: It will be Colorado.

PrepCA: What put Colorado over the top?

Marquez Herrod:  Colorado had a down to business coaching staff.  I liked that.

PrepCA: Will you play outside backer or defensive end in the Colorado scheme?

Marquez Herrod:  Rush end in the 4-3 base defense.  We will run some 3-4 but mostly 4-3.

PrepCA: Tell us about Coach Hawkins.

Marquez Herrod: Real cool guy, very down to earth.  Coach Hawkins  laid it out for you and let you decide with no pressure.

PrepCA: Tell us about your position coach, Romeo Bandison?

Marquez Herrod: Coach Bandison is a real funny guy.  He keeps it simple and lets you do what you do best. Everyone is learning the defense so it is nice all the players are starting at the same place.

PrepCA: What did you think of Boulder?

Marquez Herrod:  It was clean and beautiful everybody I met was very nice.

PrepCA: What will it be like to go to a school that just hired a new head coach?

Marquez Herrod:  Great new opportunity to get to grow with the other plays. You get to build the program and make it your own.

PrepCA: You wanted to make some comments regarding Oregon State.

Marquez Herrod:  Oregon State was a great school! I like them a lot.  Coach Riley is a great guy and I have the up most respect for him and his staff, but I just felt very comfortable at Colorado.

During the past season, PrepCA has had many chances to talk with Marquez.  He is a quality young man and could be a big part of building Coach Hawkins' program at Boulder.
