Cal-Hi Sports Bay Area Players of the Year

Two from the CIF North Coast Section and two from the CIF Central Coast Section picked as best of the bay in baseball and softball. As seen on our weekly TV show that airs Sundays on KGO TV San Francisco. First batch of statewide postseason honors for baseball and softball will be released on Friday.

NCS Baseball: Adam Elliot (Clayton Valley, Concord)

ADAM WAS A STAR ON THE MOUND AND AT THE PLATE FOR THE EAGLES. ON THE MOUND, ADAM WAS 9-4 WITH A 2.18 EARNED RUN AVERAGE STRIKING OUT 110 BATTERS IN 74 INNINGS. AT THE PLATE ADAM HIT .435 WITH THREE HOME RUNS AND 34 RUNS BATTED IN. AS A BASERUNNER, HE SCORED 24 RUNS AND STOLE 15 BASES. ADAM WAS CHOSEN BY THE NEW YORK METS IN THE SIXTH ROUND OF THE MAJOR LEAGUE DRAFT AND SIGNED A LETTER OF INTENT EARLIER IN THE SCHOOL YEAR WITH UNLV.

NCS Softball: Morgan Oliveri (Freedom, Oakley)

MORGAN WAS DOMINANT IN LEADING THE FALCONS TO THE NCS CLASS 3A EAST BAY TITLE. IN THE CIRLCE, MORGAN HAD A 19-3 RECORD WITH 143 STRIKE OUTS AND JUST 22 WALKS.SHE GAVE UP JUST SEVEN EARNED RUNS FOR A REMARKABLE 0.29 ERA. MORGAN WAS A HITTER AS WELL WITH A .380 BATTING AVERAGE AND 18 RUNS BATTED IN. OLIVERI WILL ATTEND DIABLO VALLEY COLLEGE NEXT YEAR.

CCS Baseball: Daniel Romero (Wilcox, Santa Clara)

OUR CCS BASEBALL PLAYER OF THE YEAR COMES FROM THE CCS CHAMPION WILCOX CHARGERS. HE IS DANIEL DOUBLE BARRELL ROMERO. DOUBLE BARRELL BECAUSE HE IS TWO WEAPONS IN ONE. DANIEL WAS OUTSTANDING ON THE MOUND FOR WILCOX GOING 8-0 WITH THREE SAVES AND A 0.81 ERA. IN THE PLAYOFFS HE EARNED THE SAVE IN THE CHARGERS' WIN OVER ST. FRANCIS AND THE WIN IN THE TITLE GAME AGAINST SERRA. AT THE PLATE, DANIEL HIT .456 WITH A .754 SLUGGING PERCENTAGE. HE HAD EIGHT HOME RUNS AND 10 DOUBLES WITH 45 RUNS BATTED IN. HE ALSO STOLE 23 BASES IN 23 TRIES.

CCS Softball: Monica Abbott (North Salinas, Salinas)

MONICA WAS PERFECT FOR HER NORTH SALINAS TEAM IN THE CCS SEMI-FINALS AND FINALS PITCHING BACK TO BACK PERFECT GAMES. DURING THE SEASON SHE PITCHED 81 INNINGS WITH 156 STRIKEOUTS AND JUST SIX WALKS. HER SEASON LONG EARNED RUN AVERAGE WAS 0.17 GIVING UP JUST TWO EARNED RUNS ALL YEAR. SHE HAD 18 SHUTOUTS INCLUDING EIGHT NO HITTERS AND FOUR PERFECT GAMES. MONICA IS JUST A JUNIOR, SO SHE'LL BE BACK NEXT SEASON HOPING TO LEAD THE VIKINGS TO EVEN MORE LOFTY HEIGHTS.
