September 1, 2006, 7:30pm

Poly Head Coach: Raul Lara

Santa Margarita Head Coach: Mike Jacot

These two teams have not played each other in the recent past.  Both are excellent programs with outstanding coaches.  Whenever you have this combination the game will be intriguing on every level.

Poly lost: Starting QB Millicent Adeola Olawale, Wide Receivers #1, #2 & #3 in receiving yards WR's Terrance Austin, Travon Patterson (#1 Scorer) and TE Conan Amituanai.  Also #1, #2 & #3 rushers Troy Guthrie (also #3 scorer), Ryan Smith (#1 scorer & #3 in tackles) and Ellis Anderson.  Their defense lost #1 & #2 Tacklers Alfred Row & Jurray Casey (also #2 in sack).

Poly has experienced this before and the coaches have that next level player, ready to step up and fill the gaps.  Let's start with Poly's team speed always being good, now lets bring back a big and experienced Offensive Line including 6'2" 300 Junior Marcus Falanai, 6'2" 380 Senior Joshua Tuuao, 6'3" 300 Junior Daveon Akinsanya and finish this group with 6'3" 285 Junior Douglas Spacht.  Poly has a bunch more sharp lineman and they may also impact this year, if not this game.  Poly also returns their #1 Sack player with 11 Kenny Rowe, a 6'4" 220 pound Senior who also had 44 tackles, an Interception and a 52 yard Punt Return for a TD.  We will see this kid play on Saturday's at the Division I level.  A good looking 6'1" 175 CB Donovan Warren a very good athlete and tackler returns to the defense.  2005 Backup QB 5'11" 198 Garbriel Thomas returns and to get mentioned he showed signs of a good decision maker last year with 42 attempts and 25 completions for a 59% completion average and 4 Tds and no interceptions.  We will watch Gabriel, but his numbers from last year show that he can play and lead this inexperience offense through the first few games or minutes until it get its footing.

Santa Margarita also lost key playmakers starting with Starting QB Jon Daniels, #2 Receiver Jacob Gordon, #3 Receiver Thomas Hull, #1 rushing yards and #1 Scorer John Angelo, TE Ross Cumming (#2 tackles and #3 scoring), and #3 tackler JD Dawson.

Santa Margarita will have to search for their new QB to throw to a very talented returning #1 Receiver, 5'10" 170 Ryan Maxwell.  Ryan caught 40 balls for 679 yards and a very good 17 yard average with 6 tds.  Maxwell also ran the ball 13 times for 112 yards (8.6 avg.), made 10 tackles, 2 int., was #1 Punt Returner, #1 Kick Returner, #2 Scorer and #1 in all purpose yards.  On the defensive side of the ball #1 tackler, 5'11"190 DB Kyle Aldridge and 6'2" 230 Junior Logan Harrell, #1 in Sacks with 9.5 and had 50 tackles.  Santa Margarita brings a moderate size offensive line, topped in weight by 6'0" 260 Senior Tyler Lumm and 6'2" 260 Senior Michael Roman, that will really need to show its quickness.  Harrell also plays on the offensive line so we know there is toughness there.

Santa Margarita will need to really step up to keep up with this Poly Team.
