When: September 8, 2006, 7:30pm

Head Coaches:

Wood: Mike Boles

Elk Grove: David Hoskins

This will be the first recent meeting of these two teams.

Lost Players:

Wood has the ability to step up even with the graduation of #2 Receiver Chris Ramirez and #1 Run & #1 Scorer Tereaun Berry.

Elk Grove graduated a bunch of playmakers including QB Andrew Gardner, #1 Receiver Charlie Zamora, #1 Run & #1 Scorer  RB Jeff Jackson, #2 Run & #3 Rec RB Joe Allen and the #1 & #3 tacklers Ryan Coulson & Jake Glass.  Two 270 pound linemen, Shawn McMahon & Kenny Wiggins were lost, as well.

Returning Playmakers:

Wood however returns 6'0" 190 QB Jon Poncy who completed 78 passes in 184 attempts (42%) for 1039 8 ints 6 tds and ran 66 times for 44 yards 2 tds.  Jon has another year of experience and will be an asset to the team this year.  The #2 passer is also coming back although he played WR last year.  6'3" 205 Jimmy Nules caught 16 passes for 306 yards (19 yd avg.) 2 tds and he completed 3 throws in 5 attempts (60% completions) with 1 td (this is a pretty nice brief job).  #2 Scorer 5'9" 185 RB Joel Beatty, who also ran 27 times for 98 yards and 3 tds returns.  The line is lead by 6'4" 320 William Cooper, 6'3 270 Robert Holst and 6'3" 260 Carney .  This is a good looking line on paper, though we will see how they perform at game time.  This excellent coaching staff will have them ready to go.

Elk Grove graduated the majority of its playmakers however the biggest change could be the switch of returner 6'1" 210 WR Shane Lowman to QB.  There was not much experienced left after graduation and we are sure there was a competition.  We will see who starts and play well.  The other returns include #1 KR 6'1" 210  RB Nick Nugent (24 yard avg.),  #2 Receiver 5'9" 175 Joel Hull with 19 runs for 304 yards (16 yd avg.) and 26 runs for 139 yards and a 5 yard avg.  6'0" 175 pound RB Brannon Brooks looks very interesting based on his brief numbers from last year.  Brooks ran 4 times for 116 yards, a 29 yard avg., 3 tds, had 48 tackles and 5 kick returns for 110 yards (22 yard avg.).  Elk Grove returns defensive playmakers including #2 tackler & #1 in Sacks  6'2" 220 LB/FB Jordan Glass (8 yard run avg. at FB) & #2 in sacks Bryan Eisenbeisz.  Perhaps the best part of the returning group is a group of very large linemen.  This group includes 6'3" 295 Charles Brallier, 6'7" 285 John Tupou, 6'3" 265 Kevin Walsh and 6'1" 260 Daniel Srch.  This is potentially a powerful team.  Wood will have to be conditioned to go 4 quarters against a heavyweight battle in the trenches.
