Future Looks Bright for Santa Clara

The Saints improve to 3-0 for the first time in 18 years.

After defeating St. Genevieve 35-2 on Saturday, the Saints improve to 3-0 for the first time in 18 years.

Santa Clara, a small co-ed school in Oxnard, enrollment around 300 and formerly D13 freelance, is currently the only undefeated team in the newly formed Frontier League which includes Fillmore and Bishop Diego. Included in those three wins was a 27-21 thrilling defeat of former Division 4 team,
Hueneme High School-enrollment over 2200. Santa Clara, which has seen a growth in enrollment as well as talent level, might start to make some noise.
The Saints use a balanced attack, led by All-County senior RB Paul Perez (124 yds/game rushing) and Sophomore RB/WR Cierre Wood. Wood is averaging 226 All-Purpose Yd's per game. Joining Wood and Perez is TE/WR Junior Randi Vines who leads the team with 165 yds on 7 catches and 2TD's.
The Saints QB, senior Stephen Raab, guides this balanced attack. The Saints, in their three wins, are averaging 28 pts in offense giving up about 7pts in defense. The entire OL/DL is underclassmen, In addition, this year the Santa Clara JV squad is 3-0 outscoring their opponents 101-0. The future certainly looks bright for Santa Clara.
