Redlands Tunes Up for Big Game With Blowout

The difference between a high school game in Redlands and any other Citrus Belt League game is that the visitor still has to wait in line to buy a ticket.  The crowds are big at the University of Redlands.  This year those fans may well be rewarded with extra games that go deep into the playoffs.  Redlands enters CBL play with a perfect 3-0 record.

Friday night, the Terriers hammerd Chino Hills Ayala in every phase of the game.  On the opening drive they converted a 4th and 6 at their own 44 yardline with an audible from punt formation. Kicker Ryan Counce took advantage of the Bulldog alignment and raced to the Ayala 8 yard line.  Coy Glass, who is the second best quarterback in the city of Redlands, next to REV's Ronnie Fouch, put the game away with a 14 yard pass to Cody Smith.  Glass may be Avis to Fouch 's Hertz, but the 6'2", 217 lb. senior is well deserving of college scouts' attention.  He showed off a rocket arm, quick feet and great poise in finding Smith along the backside of endzone on a deep crossing pattern.  This was not Glass's only big play of the night.  He was a model of consistency for the whole game.

Redlands has a tough inside running game with Jeff Duran carrying the rock (81 yards on 13 carries).  They have an excellent corps of receivers in Smith, Cory Ham, and Ryan Counce.  Counce is no doubt the best overall athlete on the team

The defense rounds out a well balanced and well coached team.  They held Ayala to -1 yard in 17 attempts.  Linebacker Brandon Phillips is the 'Janitor' for this bunch. He seems to clean up on every play and certainly is responsible for 'putting out the lights' with big hits.

The final score was 48-14.  Ayala scored late in the first half with 44 yard bomb and in the second half when they recovered a ball in the end zone.

Fans had better get to the University of Redlands early next week. Redlands is primed and ready for next week's showdown with intra city rival, Redlands East Valley.  REV lost a scorcher to Upland 48-37. At one time they were down 34 to 7.  REV has plenty of fire power.  Ronnie Fouch has already signed to go to the University of Washington. But Glass has the talent to stay with the REV quarterback. Redlands may well have a slight advantage on defense and in the running game. If Redlands can beat REV, the Terriers will have a chance to do go undefeated in the regular season.  They have not done this since the Beach Boys and the Beatles were still in high school.

This game will be somebody's Gettysburg.  It will decide the whole CBL season as much as Gettysburg decided the Civil War.  The season will go on as the war did, but the drama will be over. The winner will wear Snow White's crown.  Call the loser 'Doc' and distribute the other Dwarf's  names of Happy, Bashful, Sleepy, Sneezy, and Grumpy to, Fontana, Carter, Rialto, Miller, and  Eisenhower.
