Player Spotlight: Niko Sachs - 2008

The Cager Report on sits down with top 2008 Arizona prospect, Niko Sachs...

Niko Sachs, 6-2, Glendale (Ariz.) Cactus was recently named to's 2008 shooting guard watch list.  One of the top 2008 prospects in Arizona, we had a chance to sit down and talk to this athletic combo guard.



Cager Report: What were your stats from last season?
Sachs: 14 points, 4 reb

CR: What is your official height and weight?
Sachs: 6-3, 175

CR: What is your greatest basketball memory?
Sachs:  Starting in Varsity as a freshman.

CR: What are your goals for the upcoming season?

Sachs: Improve shooting and ball handling.

CR: What aspect of your game have you really worked hard to improve? What area would you like to keep improving on? 
Sachs: Shooting, defense and ball handling.  I need to continue working on ball handling to play PG in college.

CR: Who are some of your teammates that people need to watch out for?

Sachs: Marques Coleman, Kohl Conway, Caleb Richardson, Corey Myers.

CR: Name one teammate you really respect and why?

Sachs: Marques Coleman because he has always been there for me.

CR: What are your goals regarding playing basketball in college?

Sachs: Play Division 1 basketball.

CR: Would you consider staying in state to play in college?

Sachs: I want to go out of state.


CR: What would your top 5 college choices be? Do you have any offers yet?

Sachs: No offers, nor preference.

CR: Who is the best player you ever played against? Why?

Sachs: Malik Story (SoCal All Stars). Malik is very confident and always under control. 

CR: Name one opponent who you really respect and why?

Sachs: Nick Witherill.  Nick is a big time shooter. Seems like I have been matched up against him forever.

CR: What Club Basketball team do you player for in the Spring and Summer?

Sachs: Phoenix Magic (Spring) and Arizona Magic (Summer)

CR: How do you think your coach would describe you as a player?

Sachs: Very easy to coach.  Hard working and good attitude.

CR: What are your strengths and weaknesses as a player?

Sachs: My strengths is taking it to the basket and playing defense.  I still need to continue improving my handles.


CR: Who is your favorite athlete and why?

Sachs: Raja Bell. He is so committed to defense.

CR: What is the best piece of advice you have ever received?

Sachs: If your shot is not falling, take it to the rack.

CR: Tell us what can we expect from your team this season?

Sachs: State Championship.

CR: What position do you think you will play in college?

Sachs: Combo Guard.

CR: What can a college program expect from you as a player?

Sachs: Very easy to coach.  Hard working and good attitude. Gym rat and good student.

CR: What will the main factors be when you choose a school?

Sachs: Coaching staff and location.
