The Cager Report

Stephon Lamar (pictured) had a great showing over this past weekend in Phoenix (Ariz). Lamar, a 2009 guard from St. Augustine (San Diego)...

The Arizona Preps Fall Showcase has ended and the Cager Report will start off with our NCAA Division I Prospects that participated including a High Major prospect in Stephon Lamar 6-0 Sophomore St. Augustine HS (CA)

Here are the NCAA Division I Prospects we observed:
(in alphabetical order)

Colin Borchert, 6-8 2009, Mountain Ridge HS (Ariz)
Borchert is one of the top young posts in the west. He has excellent feet and hands, with an advanced feel in the post. His overall ball skills are very good for a young big man. He's not a real explosive athlete at this point, but he gets up pretty good and he's still a young kid. He is more of a finesse player than a banger. A High-Major Prospect

Marques Coleman, 6-4 2008,
Cactus High School (Ariz)
We really like this PG from Cactus. Understanding of the game and the PG position is way above his class. Needs quicker feet, and a jumpshot to make it to the High-Major level. With another year of intense work on his jumper, along with his lateral quicks, Coleman will be a HM prospect. Right now a Mid-Major.

Demetrius Crowell, 6-6 2007 PF Mesa (
Ariz.) High
Big-bodied four man with very good feet and a high skill level. He's still carrying some baby fat, which we figured would be gone by now. His upper body needs developing. He's got very good ball skills for his size. Will visit Idaho this weekend.

Maurice Jackson, 6-3 2007 SG/PG Gilbert (
Ariz.) High
Has a very good basketball body and a nice stroke with three-point range.
Jackson needs to get a little better with the ball, but he's an intriguing prospect to watch. Don't know his academic situation but could be a solid MM prospect. Explosive athlete.

Brendon Lavender 6-4 2008,
Mesa Mt. View High School (Ariz)
The best prospect in the showcase. Great basketball body. Above average ball skill. Great range. Big time composure with the ball. We would like to have seen him more in transition with the ball but this kid has a bright future at the High major level.

Stephon Lamar 6-0 Sophomore
St. Augustine HS (CA)
California native who surprised everybody! A scoring point guard with very good quickness and ball skills. Good shooter with a quick release. Hard to guard. A potential high major prospect.

Mickey McConnell, 6-0 2007 PG Dobson (
Ariz) High School
The
New Mexico bound PG has bulked up. A real knack for the position. Solid range and above average skill running the point. Will have success as a Lobo. We wondered why he participated, injury etc. But it shows he just loves to compete.

Niko Sachs 6-3 Junior Cactus HSLong armed athlete who gets after it. Not a 2G and undersized for a wing at the next level. He makes up for it with his heart and desire on the court. A solid Mid-Major prospect suited for the Big Sky or Big West conferences.
