Cross town Rivals 6-0 Oaks Christian Lions (Westlake Village, CA), League: Tri-Valley #1 @ 6-0 Oak Park Eagles (Oak Park, CA), League: Tri-Valley #2.

Kickoff: October 20, 2006 7:30 PM (Moorpark College)

Two excellent coaching staffs lead by Head Coaches:

Oaks Christian: Bill Redell

Oak Park: Dick Billingsley

Oaks Christian is currently 6-0 Lompoc (CA) W 49-0, Muir (Pasadena, CA) W 60-6, St. Bonaventure (Ventura, CA) W 59-13, Venice (Los Angeles, CA) W 47-17, Diamond Ranch (Pomona, CA) W 57-0 and a league match up with Carpinteria (CA) W 63-7.

The Lion have 164 carries for 1414 yards (8.6 avg.) 20 TD's & 78 completions in 127 attempts (61.4%) for 1493 yards (11.7 yards per throw) 1 Int 21 TD's.  This is a balanced team run to pass ratio but is extremely productive either way.  Their Defense gives up an incredibly low 7.16 points per game (with 27 Sacks and 15 Int's) while this offense scores and very high 56 points per game.  Can the Eagles figure a way to score and limit Oaks scoring?  We have to wait until Friday Night.

By comparison, last year Oaks Christian was 13 0 and State Playoff Champion having played Twentynine Palms (CA) W 70-7,  La Salle (Pasadena, CA) (San Marino) W 63-0,  Nordhoff (Ojai, CA) W 35-7, Grace Brethren (Simi Valley, CA) W 49-0.  The Lions Defense gave up 6.7 yards per game and scored 54.  They ran the ball 350 times and thre 251 times.

Oak Park is currently 6-0 having played Cathedral (Los Angeles, CA) W 34-26, Calabasas (CA) W 42-7, Newbury Park (CA) W 35-19, Los Angeles Baptist (North Hills, CA)  (Alemany) W 31-13, Camarillo (CA) W 14-6 and a league match up with Grace Brethren (Simi Valley, CA W 34-13.

The Eagles have 220 runs for 1400 yards (6.36 avg.) 17 TD's & have 59 completions in 100 attempts (59%) for 810 yards (8.1 yards per throw) 3 Int's 6 TD's.  They are a run team that will throw for first downs and with eight yards per throw they are almost all first downs.  Their Defense has given up a very good 14 points per game (with 16 Sacks and 15 Interceptions), while the offense is scoring 31.6 points per game, with one of their toughest schedules ever with three large school 2005 Division 4 opponents and a very athletic Cathedral team.

Here is the contrast last year the Eagles were 7-4 and lost in the 2nd round after having played Desert Hot Springs (CA) W 40-7, Grace Brethren (Simi Valley, CA) L 19-28.  They had 380 runs for 2482 yards (6.53 avg.) 22 TD's & completed 83 of 162 passes (51.2%) for 1241 yards 11 Int's 18 TD's.  The team also had a run personality last year but has increased their passing efficiency in 2006. The Eagle defense gave up 16 points per game and scored 27 per game last year.

My Final Thoughts:

  • These teams did not play last year because of the Oak Park fires, so they are eager to play.
  • Oak Park is the last team to beat the Lions 3 years ago.
  • The schools are only a couple of miles apart and most all of the kids know each other.
  • They are #1 and #2 in the Tri Valley League
  • They are #1 & #2 in the CIF SS Northwest division
  • Both teams play with speed and play take away defense
  • The winner takes the league lead alone
  • Some say David vs Goliath

Yes this is a game to go see Under the Lights at Moorpark College!
