Kickoff: October 27, 2006 7:00 PM

Head Coaches:

Harvard-Westlake: Vic Eumont

Serra: Scott Altenberg

Harvard-Westlake is currently 5-2 having played Pasadena (CA) L 33-34, Van Nuys (CA) W 42-0, Burroughs (Burbank, CA) L 31-35, Carson (CA) W 31-30, La Canada (CA) W 38-14 and league match ups with St. Bernard (Playa del Rey, CA) W 21-3 and a very athletic 5-1 Cathedral (Los Angeles, CA) W 23-20.

The Woverines have 167 carries for 966 yards (5.78 avg.) 11 TD's & 79 completions in 120 attempts (65.8%) 908 yards (7.5 yards per throw) 3 Int's 14 TD's.   Their Defense is allowing 19.8 points per game, while their offense is scoring 31.2.  Because the offense can score the 19.8, the give away has worked, but the coaches want it a little lower.

By comparison, last year Harvard-Westlake was 5-5 but was in the higher Division 3.  Their Defense gave up 19.8 points per game and the offense scored 19.8.  They ran 278 times and threw 196 times.  So they have been fairly balanced the last two years.

These two teams played last year in the first game and Harvard Westlake won 9-7.  Harvard's John Howe had 21 runs for 23 yards & 10 completions in 18 attempts 122 yards 1 TD.  Serra had 21 runs for 198 yards & 5 completions in 10 attempts for 124 yards.  So you see this is a rematch to go see.

Serra is currently 6-1 having played Palos Verdes Peninsula (Rolling Hills Estates, CA) L 30-42, North (Torrance, CA) W 16-0, Torrance (CA) W 28-6, Redondo (Redondo Beach, CA) W 17-7, South (Torrance, CA) W 28-16 and league games with Cathedral (Los Angeles, CA) W 16-13 and Bosco Tech (Rosemead, CA) W 49-16.

Serra has 194 runs for 1277 yards (6.58 avg.) 12 TD's & 83 completions in 134 attempts (61.9%) 1235 yards 1 Int 10 TD's.  They are pretty equally balance in the run to pass ratio and effective at both.  Their defense is giving up a respectable 14.2 points per game (average of 2 sacks per game) and their offense is scoring 26.2 per game.

My Final Thoughts:

This game is considered a must see.  Harvard Westlake is very disciplined, plays with heart for the tough yards and has the speed to take the ball the distance.  Serra is packed with good athletes that will make Harvard pay for any mistakes they make.  These are two smart teams with no fear.  I am going to forget the numbers and tell you that this game is all about heart and it will all be left on the field.  Report your experience back to me.
