Monrovia Wildcats (Monrovia, CA), League: Rio Hondo #1 @ Temple City Rams (Temple City, CA), League: Rio Hondo #2.  These teams are ranked Monrovia #1 and Temple City #3 in the CIF-SS Mid Valley District.

Kickoff: November 3, 2006 7:00 PM

Head Coaches:

Monrovia: Steve Garrison

Temple City: Mike Mooney

Monrovia is currently 7-1, having played Montclair (CA) W 20-0, Duarte (CA) W 42-12, Arcadia (CA) W 27-13, West Covina (CA) L 20-22, La Salle (Pasadena, CA) W 52-19, and league games with La Canada (CA) W 38-0, Blair (Pasadena, CA) W 50-13 and

San Marino (CA) W 21-7.

Monrovia has 271 runs for 1682 yards (6.21 avg.) 22 TD's & 72 completions in 128 attempts (56.3 avg.) 970 yards (7.57 yards per pass) 3 Int's 7 TD's   Their Defense has allowed an exceptional 10.7 points per game (with 10 Int's & 9 Sacks), while the offense is scoring 33.7 against very good competition.  I personally have seen their freshman play and they are very well coached.

By comparison, last year Monrovia was 5 6 and lost to Crespi in the 1st Round of the CIF Playoffs 32-12.  They ran the ball 304 times and passed 224 times.  So they have the same run personality this year as they did last year.

These two teams played each other last year with Temple City winning 27-7, so Monrovia is looking for a little payback.  Temple City had 41 runs for 351 yards & 6 completions in 13 attempts for 84 yards.  Monrovia had 27 runs for 103 yards & Returning Potts had 14 completions in 26 attempts for 137 yards 2 Int's 1 TD.

Temple City is currently 7-1, having played Arroyo (El Monte, CA) W 35-14, Alhambra (CA) W 39-28, San Gabriel (CA) W 18-6, Rosemead (CA) W 21-9, La Salle (Pasadena, CA) L 14-21 and league games with South Pasadena (CA) W 6-0, San Marino (CA) W 30-7 and La Canada (CA) W 31-28.

Temple City has 302 runs for 1671 yards (5.53 avg.) 17 TD's & 64 completions in 110 attempts (58.2%) for 964 yards (8.76 yards per throw) 4 Int's 7 TD's.  Their Defense allows 14.1 points per game (with 18 sacks and 10 Int's), while their offense scores 24.

Last year Temple City was 8-4 and played Duarte (CA) W 47-35 and Lompoc (CA) L 7-35 in the CIF State Playoffs.  They had 418 runs and threw 193 times.

My Final Thoughts:

What a game this will be.  These teams are very similar in production.  That Monrovia Defense has been very stingy and Temple City is not use to scoring big numbers.  On the other hand Monrovia has scored very well in its games, so Temple City will need to play at its usual high level or they could be in for trouble.  Temple's recent history is very solid, so they hearts will show Friday Night.  Monrovia has a loss to avenge so this one will be fun.
