Chaminade is currently 5-3 having played Royal (Simi Valley, CA) W 26-11, Burbank (CA) W 46-6, Chatsworth (CA) W 35-27,  Canyon (Canyon Country, CA) L 32-49, El Camino Real (Woodland Hills, CA) W 42-7, Crespi (Encino, CA) L 7-15, Bishop Amat (La Puente, CA) L 7-10 and a League game St. Paul (Santa Fe Springs, CA) W 31-28. 

 

The Eagles have 189 runs for 821 yards (4.34 avg.) 11 TD's & 140 completions in 246 attempts (56.9%) for 2118 yards (a very good 8.6 yards per throw) 7 Int's 18 TD's.   Their Defense is allowing 19 points per game while the offense is scoring 28.  The Eagles are an efficient throwing team.

 

By comparison, last year Chaminade was 9-3 and played Arcadia (CA) W 33-31and loss to Palos Verdes Peninsula (Rolling Hills Estates, CA) L 18-21 in the State Playoffs.

 

These two teams played last year with Chaminade winning 22-14.  Chaminade had 35 runs for 126 yards & 7 completions in16 attempts for 95 yards 1 TD.  St Francis had 22 runs for -52 yards & 17 completions in 28 attempts for 175 yards 3 Int's 2 TD's

 

St. Francis is currently 6-2 having played Arcadia (CA) W 24-0, Crescenta Valley (La Crescenta, CA) W 37-6, Burroughs (Burbank, CA) W 24-21, Los Altos (Hacienda Heights, CA) W 19-12, 10/6/06 TBA @Saugus (CA)  (College of Canyons) W 30-27, Bishop Amat (La Puente, CA) L 28-29, Crespi (Encino, CA) L 17-31, and a League game with Alemany (Mission Hills, CA) W 37-7. 

 

St. Francis has 244 runs for 1107 yards (4.54 avg.)16 TD's & 101 completions in 177 attempts (57.1%) (an excellent 9.1 yards per throw) for 1611 yards 3 Int 12 TD's.   Their Defense allows 16.6 points per game (7 Int's & 23 Sacks), while their offense scores 27.  St Francis is a running team that passes often and for big yards.

 

Here is the contrast last year they were 10-3 and played Downey (CA) W 28-21, Mira Costa (Manhattan Beach, CA) W 20-14 and loss to Notre Dame (Sherman Oaks, CA)

  • 6'4" 205 Junior QB Ryan Griffin has 140 completions in 245 attempts (57.1 avg.) for 2118 yards 6 Int's 18 TD's
  • 6'2" 190 2 way 2 year playmaker Senior WR/DB Aubrey Smith is the #1 Receiver with 45 catches for 833 yards (18.51 avg.) 9 TD's.  Aubrey is also an outstanding Safety and we will see him play on Saturdays.
  • 5'11" 180 Senior RB/LB Kevin Pilar is the #2 Rusher with 41 carries for 321 yards (7.83 avg.) 2 TD's & is the #2 Receiver with 26 catches for 417 yards (16.04 avg.) 4 TD's
  • 5'8" 185 Senior RB/DB Devin Smith is the #1 Rusher with 80 carries for 381 yards (4.76 avg.) 5 TD's.
  • 5'11" 190 Senior WR/DB Trevor Puetz is the #3 receiver with 33 catches for 414 yards (12.55 avg.) 2 TD's

  • 5'11" 210 Senior LB Gianni D'ovidio is the Defensive Leader.  He had 63 Tackles last year and led the team.

  • 6'3" 210 2 year Senior QB Luke Collis has 101 completions in 177 attempts (57.1%) (an excellent 9.1 yards per throw) for 1611 yards 3 Int 12 TD's.  Last year he had 106 completions in 191 attempts (55.5%) for 1632 yards 11 Int's 15 Int's.
  • 5'10" 155 Junior RB Kyle Morgan is the #1 Rusher with 109 carries for 520 yards (4.77 avg.) 4 TD's
  • 5'9" 155 Junior WR Kevin Garcia is the #1 Receiver with 23 catches for 409 yards (17.78 avg.) 3 TD's
  • 5'8" 145 Junior WR Kyle Wong is the #2 Receiver with 19 catches for 290 yards (15.26 avg.)
  • 6'2" 170 Freshman WR Dietrich Riley has 3 catches for 109 yards (a scary 36.33 avg.) 2 TD's.  This is an up and coming outstanding playmaker.

My Final Thoughts: 

This will be an excellent game to go and watch.  Chaminade will try to throw the ball, while St Francis is pretty good at sacking the QB.  St Francis will use that big line to soften the Eagles, while throwing the ball for first downs and eating clock.  Both of these teams always play with heart and I expect this to be a big time hitting game because this is an every year match up.
